If people who are told that they are under arrest, and who refuse to come with the police, cannot be forcibly taken into custody, then we do not have the rule of law, when the law itself is downgraded to suggestions that no one has the power to enforce.

This is for everyone who complained, regarding the Eric Garner case, that it was just about untaxed cigarettes.

There are two issues in the Garner case. The first - and the one most people are so upset about - is the attempted arrest and its aftermath.

The second issue is that the law on which his arrest hinged was a confiscatory tax law.

One can decry both or either separately.
