They should have brought a cop. Cops know how to deal with dogs.

ABC news last night said one of the guards went outside “to relieve himself” and spotted the SEALS.

Probing? Am I supposed to believe a dog beat SEALS?
Yes. If you do not stay downwind; and movement to fool a good dog is so slow as to be useless to an operation like this, you're going to be sensed by the dog long before you know where it's at.
Add to that, you have 40 people moving and not just one. The dog is going to be aware of you out to 100 meters.

Time to reissue the De Lisle carbine again! A silenced .45ACP Based on the Enfield action in WWII. Great for guard dogs!

“Wait! I thought Muslims didnt own dogs.. unclean or something...”
You don’t have to ‘like’ dogs to make use of them in this manner. I remember seeing a Salvadoran infantry lieutenant giving a talk on anti-insurgency tactics. He said that when his platoon went into the bush hunting communists, who had a much better knowledge of the local terraiin, dogs helped mitigate that disadvantage. The first thing the patrol would do is feed their left over rations to the local strays. This would keep them ‘hanging around’ the patrol, and so they could utilize the dogs’ acute senses to alert them when somebody was creeping up on their hide.

I can’t believe anyone would take something they read from such a source seriously enough to comment! I guess we’re all intel officers now.

I am struck by the foolishness of many of the comments on this thread. This story comes from two journalists who were clearly not on the scene. What is the source of their information, especially the unnamed source concerning the barking dog. Is someone trying to do damage control, or are they just speculating from the safety and comfort of some Washington situation room? This report may be correct, or may be wildly off the mark. I’ll wait for more information.
As for the wannabe’s who are so quick to pronounce judgment on the execution of this operation, I’d love to hear the tales of their dramatic deeds of derring do.

I just wasted over an hour of my life, time that I will never get back, examining posting histories for some of these military geniuses. Suffice to say that you have never bumped into any of them on your way to, from, and during a gunfight.
