President Barack Obama, who had medical tests on Saturday after complaining of a sore throat, is suffering from acid reflux, the president's physician said.
"The president's symptoms are consistent with soft tissue inflammation related to acid reflux and will be treated accordingly," Obama's doctor, Captain Ronny Jackson, said in a statement.
Acid reflux is a condition in which the stomach contents flow back up from the stomach into the esophagus, causing such symptoms as heartburn and sore throat.
Obama, 53, went to Walter Reed military hospital for a fiber optic exam of his throat and since swelling was detected, doctors decided to perform a CT scan as well, Jackson said.

Hate and bile are tough to keep down.
He can take that stop smoking drug Chantix (sp). One of its side effects is suicidal thoughts.
Die islamist.
Too much Reggie to the face.
Try waking up in post op following a hysterectomy, with a estrogen patch slapped on your arm you did NOT agree to, and PUKING acid. Your throat will be raw, like you swallowed razor blades.
Untreated or under treated GERD can cause Barrett’s Esophagus. Many drugs cause Drug Induced GERD. OA, HRT, and a host of other drugs.
On the other hand long term use of PPI’S is now being linked in 2 small studies to a slow motility digestive disease. Gastroparesis.
Long term use of PPI also is linked to Bone Density issues.
Maybe Granny’s baking soda is a wiser choice after all.
No one mentions he went and had this done because his golf date got RAINED OUT!
Right on the money. CT Scan will rule out masses or hernia’s, find pockets of gas, but does NOT touch GERD. Endoscopy is the only way to rule it and Barrett’s Esophagus out.
Be aware that there are 2 small studies linking PPI’s to Gastroparesis. And those PPI’s long term are linked to bone density issues...OP. Idiot doctors know this factoid, but do not caution patients, especially women to go on OP preventive vitamins and minerals, I don’t mean just the Cal and D3 they advise after you develop OP. Skip the OP drugs, they all come with High FDA Warnings on every one of them, and is another drug doctors do not inform patients about the FDA warnings.
Wedge pillow helps. No food after supper. Watch the spices and oils. Plenty of water, skip the soda’s.
I have one. For years I could drink water and get heartburn and reflux. Slept many nights sitting up to keep from choking to death. Finally told my doc and he put me on omneprazole. Darn what a relief! The reflux still happens occasionally but is rare now.
Right on the money. CT Scan will rule out masses or hernias, find pockets of gas, but does NOT touch GERD. Endoscopy is the only way to rule it and Barretts Esophagus out.
When I retired from the military I mentioned that I had trouble swallowing since returning from Iraq.
The VA gave me an X-Ray with Barium and diagnosed a hiatal hernia. That was when I learned the severe sore throat I repeatedly experienced over the years was due to acid reflux.
It would have been nice to find out what it was at least ten years earlier!
I hope when they did the scan, they scanned up a little higher to see if there's a brain up there. Is it larger than a pea?
It was always obvious that the fool had a**head reflux.
My take on Barry’s malady:
Mr. Obola’s HHS and UCA (Unaffordable Careless Act) approved doctor determined that his sore throat was the result of Recto-Cranial Syndrome. Other symptoms include excess bile as a result of diarrhea of the mouth, constipation of the brain, narcissism, and racism. The epicenter of the outbreak is believed to be caused by RAT and RINO droppings in the Capitol Hill and White House areas of Washington, DC. Expect more outbreaks, especially in longtime denizens of the House and Senate. (sarc)
