What would make RS apologize? My bet is that after the universal skepticism over the story they tried to fact check it with the author and couldn’t even establish that the “victim” actually exists. A completely made up story just like with Janet Cooke and the Washington Post about 10 years ago.
I think it's more likely the reporter collaborated with "the victim" (a feminist activist) to concoct this story, which wasn't really lying it was highlighting a story that didn't actually happen to her but happens to six out five women every night on every campus everywhere.
LOL
What a great time to pledge Phi Kappa Psi! Can you imagine the size of their social budget over the next few years?! And the indoor pool? And the limos to class?
Hope the people sue Rolling Stone to no end.
This not only hurts the innocence but those who are truly abused by anyone.
Watching liberal idiots eat crow is PERFECT for a Friday afternoon.
The sad part, they cannot take the damage back to those whose names were revealed. This is like the North Carolina case; all done out of politics. Disgusting. It only sets real issues of abuse even further back into getting to the truth of those situations because a person cannot begin to heal within until they can confront the crime of rape and the abuser.
>> Mike Nifong surrendered his license and went to jail. <<
That’s not all:
Duke University and/or its insurance carriers have paid a rumored $50 million to settle (out of court) the lawsuits brought by the falsely accused LAX players and their coach.
>> did CBS pay out any money to Bush? <<
For all practical intents and purposes, a “public figure” can’t prevail as plaintiff in a defamation lawsuit.
But private citizens and their fraternities (and their lacrosse teams!) are an entirely different story.
(The lawyer for the UVA fraternity must now be drooling at the prospects of his eventual 33 1/3% contingency fee!)
Another “fake but accurate” story that we’ve come to know and love about the media.
Maybe the Washington Times should take a hard look at Rolling Stone’s decade of full-of-sh!+ stories on Three Mile Island, 9/11, Iraq, and Afghanistan. If you consider Rolling Stoned legitimate news, you’ve got problems.
>> This is like the North Carolina case; all done out of politics. <<
No, not exactly. While Nifong was politically angling for the Durham County black vote in his re-election bid, the Duke faculty’s radical leftists were very active in publicly defaming the LAX team.
>> How about the UVa administration that suspended ALL fraternities based on this flimsy story? <<
You can bet that the University’s lawyers and insurance carriers are now huddling to work out a defense plan.
Rolling Stone's retraction was one of the top stories on NPR during my drive home today.
Ya, hope he puts that useless rag out of business once and for all.
>> hope he puts that useless rag out of business once and for all <<
We all can hope, of course.
But the reality is probably this:
Between Jann Wenner’s deep pockets and RS’s liability insurance coverage, there is likely to be more than enough money for settling the forthcoming damage suit(s) out of court.
If they depend on paper sales and support from advertisers maybe just maybe they’ll go down the road.
There were a lot of other parties who should have been sued to shut them up. The 88 Duke professors should have been sued individually for slander as well as several media outlets of all types. Phi Psi should go after the Stone, the author, the coed and UVA. If enough entities get dinged badly the word will get out to return true, responsible and unbiased reporting to journalism.
Expect a lot of “howevers” and “doesn’t change the fact that’s” in the future....
How do you know they were white? I havent see an all-white fraternity in years.
I can find many. Most blacks don’t want to be in a white fraternity. The PC administrations try to push blacks on whites but not the other way around. These PC administrations must think black fraternities suck and no whites would want to join.
