I’m sorry, but when you look at how we overthrew the Hawaiian Monarchy, it was not our finest moment. Pretty darn shameful, and even President Cleveland agreed with that assessment.
Aloha ‘Oe.
.
Queen Lilioukalani , herself the adopted hanai daughter of an unrelated to the Kamehameha’s and sister to the Hawaii Kingdom’s legislature appointed replacement to the Kamehameha dynasty , has very questionable claims to any leadership or monarchical role . The Legislature was composed in those days of Hawaiian ‘citizens’ , these including white people who were born or long settled here , not only ethnically oceanic peoples alone . There was a pre-existing Hawaii Kingdom Constitution in place at the time , composed by an actual Kamehameha and his counsels ( all Hawaiians) At the time of her so-called ‘over-throw’ and deposing , she led a legal and legitimate government also composed of mixed races and class/social status’ . Liliuokalani herself inspired the overthrow by openly suggesting that she was about to abrogate and throw out this original Hawaii constitution and return to an absolute monarchy , giving herself dictatorial monarchical powers alone . It was at this time and under those circumstances that those within the Hawaii Legislature body , of various races , including but by far not exclusively white , decided to act. The appeal for annexation took many years . It was the Spanish-American war that finally caused the U.S. to see the wisdom on consenting to the appeals for both annexation and later Territory status .
Study up people ....it’s important .
