So, in deciding whether a grand jury should have indicted Garner, we should assess the following questions:

1.Was there any intent by the officers to kill Garner? That would certainly be an uphill case to make, as the grand jury likely found.
2.Did the “chokehold” kill Garner, or did his pre-existing health conditions kill him? If Garner had otherwise been healthy, would he have died from use of the “chokehold”?
3.If not, would use of the “chokehold” have been reckless?
4.Was the use of the “chokehold” reasonable use of force rather than excessive use of force? Was the “chokehold” necessary to subdue him?

The law that led to this confrontation was pressed forward by former New York Mayor Michael Nanny Bloomberg; Garner had been arrested some eight times for selling untaxed cigarettes.

The linked article states that Garner died at the scene. I’ve also read that he died later, at an ER. I’m not sure which is true.

Strange.

In amongst all these facts and discussion, the thought that keeps going round and round in my head:

How may states is it legal to sell marijuana, and yet selling individual cigarettes is illegal.

Man the things going on in this country make my head spin.

The man is dead because that cop killed him, surely there is some sort of penalty for doing that.

In the cases of O.J., Martin, Brown and now Garner, black people as a group overwhelmingly side with skin color, regardless of facts.

On that basis alone, I side with the white guy. I’ve read nothing about this case until now.

White guy - not guilty.

If blacks wanted to riot about this, I MIGHT be okay with it...

I have been too busy to pay much attention to this. But from what I now understand, this was a needless death in which the lives of police were not threatened. He didn’t have a weapon -— he had cigarettes. Whether black, white, brown, yellow, or red, this death should not have happened and the chokehold violated procedure. No matter how foolish the cigarette law may be, had he been incarcerated for eight violations, he would be in jail right now for awhile instead of being dead. How many chances does one get in NY before he spends some time in jail?

It is unfortunate that this thug, who was resisting arrest as was the Ferguson thug, died because of his own stupidity. What is more unfortunate and scary is that the Attorney General of the US, the President, and the Mayor of NY have labelled the death of this stupid thug’s death as race related. It doesn’t make any difference whether this dead clown was white, black, brown, or green! He resisted arrest and died while he was being taken down? Unfortunate for him but reality!!!!

Astounding to see most of the participants on Fox’s “The Five” jump on the fashionable PC Garner was wronged bandwagon, while the two panelists on RT’s “Lone Liberal Rumble” pointed out correctly that he resisted arrest and was almost twice as large as the first officer who confronted him - sometimes the Ruskies tell the truth in spite of themselves....

Not that the actual facts should get in the way of the narrative. Sadly.

One thing the author missed from the video is that Garner slapped away the hands of the officer in front of him right before he was taken down.
