Facebook post: Selling my leftover food stamps
Howie Carr Show ^ | 12/1/14 | raccoonradio

Facebook post: Selling my leftover food stamps for this month, black Friday just killed my bank account. Interested? Message me."

(Reply: "Just saying...you do know that this is a pretty public page and you can get stripped of your benefits if the state gets wind of this?")

Rep. Shauna O'Connell is on the Howie Carr show now; probably not much can be done to the woman who posed the question.

Everyone knows this has been going on since the day the first Food Stamp was printed.

You may as well hand them cash and cut the operating overhead of this program by 93%.

Fairly recent kid there. Maybe no husband in sight?
You and I just paid for her to pop out another baby, who we’ll have to support until he grows up into a fine outstanding law-abiding young man and becomes self-supporting.

I didn't think people used printed food stamps anymore? Isn't everything on a debit-type card these days? If so, how do they sell them?

Prob means a debit EBT card but called them food stamps.

A few yrs ago someone was at a convenience store in Lynn MA and bought a bunch of soda cans via an EBT card. She then
took the cans ==still full of soda== and deposited them in the redemption machine (thus damaging it) to get a refund of the deposit. It turned out she had a fake name and a bunch of EBT cards with different names.

At a convenience store in Beverly MA tonight someone tried to pay for some stuff with their EBT but the clerk told them they were down to their last 79 cents on it.
“It’s the first of the month, there should be some money left in it...oh well, I’ll come back tomorrow”. She left the stuff with the clerk to put back. Your tax dollars at work.

...how do they sell them?

They "Rent" the card (and the PIN) to the "Buyer" for an amount that is less than the balance on the card. The buyer uses the card to purchase whatever, and then returns the card to the renter.

Apparently it's very common.

I have a checking account and get food stamps. I did open it several years before but I rarely have much money in there. Almost always less than $20 and usually less than $10.

There are several scams.

They sell the food they buy for a lot less. Lobster, steaks and other high price food items. Usually have a regular buyer.

They use the card themselves or sell it and then wait and report it stolen or lost. Not something they can usually pull more than once or twice. But they can “rent” out the card and PIN.

Sometimes they are in a scam with the store. They get paid money and the store gets reimbursed for products never actually sold. Usually mom and pop type stores.

I haven’t and wouldn’t do any of these scams. They say report fraud if you see it. Yeah right. They never do anything about it and the people keep on doing it.

There was a story on here a few years back where people were buying cases of bottled water on their EBT cards and then going out in the parking lot and emptying them out then going back and recycling for the cash
$3.99/case and get back $1.20 cash. The difference? Tax dollars

Reminds me of my sister who likes to post videos to Facebook of her driving . Pretty much documenting a traffic violation.
