No. It doesn't matter what my ancestors did, good or bad. I'm not responsible for it and should not have to either apologize or brag about it or, as Chris Rock wants me to do, "own" it.
Then why make a point of posting that your ancestors served the Union Army and did not own slaves if not to separate yourself from those whose ancestors did?
