About a week after the Republican midterm romp, nearly 20 soon-to-be House GOP freshmen huddled for a private lunch on the third floor of the Capitol Hill Club. The mood was jubilant: Each had prevailed in a swing district, exploiting deep unhappiness with President Barack Obama and angst over the countrys future. But as they dug into platters of lasagna, salad and chicken, the newbies were given some sobering news. GOP officials explained that they would be among Democrats top 2016 targets when theyd be up against a more diverse electorate and they needed to start preparing now.
.....Republicans in the 26 districts that President Obama won should be especially worried that when the Republican presidential primary races to the right, their constituents will be looking [to Democrats] for a reasonable alternative, said Rep. Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico, the incoming Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chairman...

What Republicans need to "take away" from the election is that Obama is unpopular and his policies suck to the extreme.
Politico is still eager to worship BO. By the way, Obama himself claimed his policies WERE ON THE BALLOT. But the Obama buttlicking media won't admit that fact.
Taking advice from the Enemy on how you can beat them is always a good idea.
That is why we Stomped the Democrats in the 2012 Presidential Election.
Follow the lead of the bald-headed congressman from New Mexico. He works hard keeping in touch with his constituents.
With far fewer seats to defend, Democrats will have the luxury of focusing their resources on targeting Republicans in liberal or moderate districts.
Since the demonRATS got their collective asses whhhhhhumped, they have far fewer seats to defend.
Talk about turning chickensh*t into chicken salad.
Pubbies taking advice from the politico is a way to success ... for the demonRATS.
This article is so depressing. We elect people to Congress and the Senate and they have not even moved into their offices yet and the hierarchy is already telling them to compromise to make sure they get reelected in 2 years. God forbid that anyone go to Washington to protect the Constitution and their constituents. But, here’s the bottom line: If they do spend two years compromising with Obama, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, they won’t have to worry about he DemocRATS in the General, they better worry about having their butts handed to them in the 2016 GOP Primaries. We brought ‘em in and we can take ‘em out. Keep your Congressman and your Senator aware of that fact on a regular basis.
Din, come on. Politico WANTS to depress you. That was the whole goal of writing the piece.
Do you think Politico told you the whole story? Do you think Politico cherry picked the quotes and facts to make it fit a pre-chosen narrative?
Don’t fall for the agitprop.
I understand what you’re saying, SFF, but we must admit that what the article describes is a reality. The article did not tell me anything I did not know; it just reminded me of what I already know. Once they get to Washington it’s: “Compromise or do whatever you have to do to get reelected. The people and the Constitution be damned.” Let me share something with you:
Jack Brooks (D-TX) was in Congress for over 40 years. When he ran for office the first time, he came to Pipefitters Local 195 to politic. He had one suit and they said the seat of his pants was slick from wear. They had to push his car to get it started when he left. He left Congress in the ‘94 GOP Wave Election, and he left a multi-millionaire and serving on the Board of 10 Banks. Go figure!
Looking [to Democrats] for a reasonable alternative.
The plane is coming the plane is coming.
