In the early 80's I visited the Berlin Wall...the section near the Brandenburg Gate (which was in the British Sector of Berlin). While there an army jeep pulled up and two British soldiers got out.One proceeded right to the Wall itself and the other came to where I was standing. He then pulled out some binoculars and looked right at the East German guard tower that was about 50 yards away.He then started waving at the guard tower and as he waved he said to me,laughingly,"they hate it when we do this".I asked him if they ever waved back and he said "are you kidding?"
I remember it like t was yesterday.
