When the writer begins with a Dim talking point as a premise, there is no point in reading further. This is the New York Times, remember? Dem talking points are all they know.

They felt sad, having to write it.
The GOP - how dare they - not only win an election but they take on the Democrats’ game preserve.
That’s not how its done.

The 60’s radicals ar going to die off soon. They have no bench. It’s like the politburo.

The GOP has a deep bench of future House, Senate and presidential talent.
This alarms the Democrats because its going to be very difficult for them to get candidates to run who are willing to serve decades in the minority and grow old before they can taste power.
For the GOP, on the other hand, the sky’s the limit.

The trough is only so big and there is now more infighting among Democrats for the swill that is left. Black jobs are being sacrificed to illegal aliens. Union members in the private sector are suspicious/envious of public employees union members. Union laborers and ecofascists are not friendly. Feminists are not really all that happy with all the tranny-worship of late. Nanny-staters and Native Americans that want to sell tax free cigarettes are at odds.
There are more and more opportunities for creative conservative politicians to find and exploit these increasing fault lines.

>>Ms. Barnes said that she had made it clear to party leaders that she would entertain good ideas no matter which party floated them, and that she had been promised the freedom to vote her conscience.<<
And therein lies the problem with politicians. They are NOT there to vote their conscience; they are supposed to represent the people. Until we can get rid of that mind set, nothing we do will have any impact.
