As to an earlier question (by another) would imagine the ‘Islam Movement’ for Black prisoners goes back to the Lew Alcindor/Cassius Clay days when the Black Prisoners were banding together in ‘solidarity’ AND ‘safety in numbers’, they couldn’t openly call themselves Crips or Bloods, so what better than a ‘Religious Movement’ ala Islam - the Religion of Peace...and, in true Prison logic, ‘If it keeps their minds occupied and keeps them ‘behaving’, let them go’.

The HBO(?) series “OZ” pointed out the ‘Black Muslims’ were just as ‘brutal’ AND RACIST as the ‘White Supremacists’...

The obviously VERY LIBERAL ‘Turnkey’ of the group allowed the different segregationist groups to ‘survive’ as an experiment and it did (sort of) keep the prisoners in line.

I would imagine that ANYONE that thought Prisons were for rehabilitation would have an altered opinion after viewing “OZ” for any amount of time.
