What is really sad is that my kids lose respect for them. And then they don’t want to work as hard, and with the one daughter its causes a lot of anxiety. We did talk with the principal and the history teacher about it. Asking him to teach the class, and keep the bias out of it.
It is tough though, when, even without saying things against conservatives, he stresses how bad American “imperialism” was, and how great FDR was.
Great learning moments for the kids though, when I find all sorts of great information on how FDR actually made the Great Depression worse, how American “imperialism” helped in places like the Phillipines, and how the “freedom” fighters against us were mainly opportunistic thugs. Along with how we WERE bad in some cases.
History has never been taught very well. True critical
analysis is not part of the curriculum and it should be.
A liberal friend just retired from teaching HS history.
He and his wife live like conservatives so you would not
figure their leanings until you got to know them both. He
taught AP history and claimed none of his students could
tell whether he was a conservative or a liberal because
he ripped on both sides. Knowing that he believes that
the LA Times is a politically moderate paper I once asked
him where he gets his info which supports the conserva-
tive POV. He admitted that his sources were not from
conservatives or conservative publications. I told him
that if I were one of his students I would pull the covers
off his secret affiliation in a heartbeat. He didn’t like
that.
