Ask yourself why should it be that the rules of engagement for our military in a war zone be less stringent than it is for law enforcement in our cities and towns? Our military can’t shoot unless they are being shot at. And they don’t have a choice about the risk either. If the cop is afraid for whatever reason, that good enough here...
I would however amend my position to exclude situations where the officer is fired upon.
I don’t think you accurately interpreted that post of mine. amd cops being fired on wasn’t a part of it.
Being fired on doesn’t figure into my point or position.
