Not to be picky, but cognitive dissonance is the mental stress or discomfort experienced by an individual who holds two or more contradictory beliefs, ideas, or values. It implies knowledge of the truth which she clearly does not have.
I think what thug momma Brown suffers from is plain old fashioned denial. It is the psychological force that allows low lifes like thug momma Brown to not notice that their 18 year old son is walking around stoned and beating the shit out of people.
