After the GOPs midterm-elections sweep, the Republican Party holds more U.S. House seats and controls more state houses than at any time since 1928. Having reached this goal, the GOP now needs to look for a 2016 presidential nominee to match this success.
President Calvin Coolidge, who sat in the Oval Office from 1923 to 1929, would be a smart model for the party. He reined in spending and reduced tax rates at a time when it was as needed as it is today. President Ronald Reagan admired Coolidge so much that he hung a portrait of the 30th president in his Cabinet Room.
One talked-about possible 2016 presidential candidate who shares many of Coolidges policy bona fides is Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, who won his third statewide race in four years on Nov. 4. The two men have so much in common that it is worth seeing what Coolidges experience can tell us about a potential President Walker.

Why? Because Coolidge lowered taxes and deregulated.
Wow! What a putz!
Any one being pushed by Grover is a no go for me !
I’m from WI, and I really like Walker as governor; he has courage and he is no rino. However, IMO, he would be a weak GOP presidential nominee. Although he is a very good politician and good at policy, he lacks the intellectual conservative firepower and incredibly facile mind of someone like Ted Cruz. We need someone like Cruz to take on the GOPe and the Leftist media.
Scott Walker is soft on immigration, he failed to meet state job creation campaign promises, and he is too closely alligned to members of the GOPe ruling clique (Priebus, Ryan, Norquist, and Rove).
He has not demostrated the steely resolve, the willingness to speak the Truth, and the courage to stick it to Obama like Ted Cruz has. Unlike Ted Cruz, Scott Walker has done NOTHING to defend the Constitution from Obama’s assault upon it.
go Cruz go!
he also criticized the TEA Party for running candidates in primaries against GOPers
Norquist endorsement is the kiss of death IMHO.
“He has not demostrated the steely resolve, the willingness to speak the Truth, and the courage to stick it to Obama like Ted Cruz has. Unlike Ted Cruz, Scott Walker has done NOTHING to defend the Constitution from Obamas assault upon it.”
I support Cruz too but I don’t think this is a fair criticism of Walker. First off, he’s the governor of state. He’s not in Washington. He has different responsibilities than Cruz. Second off, he hasn’t demonstrated steely resolve? The guy had thousands of union protesters descend on his capital...people threatening his family, urinating on his door...and kept his cool. If that’s not steely resolve...
>> he failed to meet state job creation campaign promises
Too few or too may were created with respect to the promise?
Scott Walker? When hell freezes over.
>> Too few or too many were created with respect to the promse?
Too few.
During the 2010 campaign, Walker promised the creation of 250k jobs. However, by September 2014 only approximately 104k jobs were created.
I’m confused as to why you want the state of Wisconsin to create more jobs — unless your point includes both the private and public sectors combined.
FWIW, any job creation is the anomaly especially since 2009 given the unprecedented, sharp decline in national labor participation.
To be forthright, Walker is someone I’d like to in the race for 2016. I realize he’s not Cruz, but neither is the role of the governor to the senator.
FRegards.
Walker promised Wisconsin voters in 2010 that 250k jobs would be created in the state by the end of a Walker administration. Only 104k jobs were created in the state as of September 2014.
I understand that the 250k job creation promise referred to jobs created throughout the state and not state government jobs.
With his experience breaking unions, and running a state, Walker would be a valuable VP addition to the ticket. However, I concur that he does not seem to have the vigor and intellectual agility that we need to win the next presidential race. I wouldn’t mind a Cruz/Walker ticket! But the other way around doesn’t work very well.
A well tested popular Republican from a blue northern state is what we need to actually win...
I love Ted Cruz and I love Sarah Palin but I don’t think either one of them can win the northern blue states.
If I could pick the US President it would be Allen West. WHAT A MAN!
Mr. Amnesty/Open Borders? No, thank you!
Cruz/West
That would be a good ticket.
Walker is a Governor.
What can he do to poke a finger in obammy’s eye in his position?
Just another case of the left trying to pick our candidate. Don’t fall for it.
