Oswald himself said he was a “patsy”. Keep in mind that Oswald was never convicted of anything!
I would also keep in mind the total statement by Oswald.

LEE HARVEY OSWALD: No. They've taken me in because of the fact that I lived in the Soviet Union. I'm just a patsy.
And to this, even being as unbiased and fair as possible, it's hard to think the shooting of Officer Tippit was anything but a cold-blooded murder by Oswald. That case has numerous witnesses. It's only speculation I admit but it seems he would have been convicted of that.
