Heres a cheeky way to do math.
Kim Kardashians naked butt broke the internet but now its helping to fix students understanding of basic geometry.
Catalyst, a test prep company, is using the ultimate semi-circle in its latest pop-culture-inspired questions to get kids primed for the SAT. (See questions below).
Catalysts interest in Kardashians image from the cover of Paper magazine is not just sexploitation. Its downright Platonic.
Kim Kardashians backside is almost perfectly circular, company founder Jared Friedland tells the Daily News. As soon as we saw that, it occurred to me that we could teach three types of geometry questions.
And as every eighth grade boy knows, Friedland is talking about circumference, angles and area of a circle. The median age of the test taker is 16, so Kardashians naked butt is a perfect topic to cover.
For all three questions, Friedland superimposed circles atop Kardashianss famous rump and he must know what hes doing because 85% of his students improve their scores by at least 200 points when they take a Catalyst course.
Students at Millennium High School in the Financial District were nonplussed by Friedlands math.
"I could definitely solve it given time, but I think it would be distracting," said William Faba 16.
"Its definitely a distraction," added Priscilla Pappas, 16. "It wouldn't encourage math it would just encourage discussion about butts and women."
But sometimes such a discussion is exactly whats needed, added student Lauren Enochs, 15.
"We talked about Kim in my English class," she said. "My teacher used her as an example for the vocabulary word lascivious."
Its not first time pop culture inspired pop quizzes for Friedland. A few years ago, Friedlands team used before and after shots of Ashlee Simpsons nose job to quiz students on calculating the slope of a line.
So are you as smart as a 14 year old? Take the test below.
Unofficially, he’s started the transition. He had his adam apple shaved and is wearing nail polish (not a manpedi color) and his hair.... Even his own mother is quoted that she doesn’t like his hair.
He was really cute in 76.
Everything sags from age. I can’t image where it will end up?
yikes that’s big, sorry all.
You know he lost a Rolex in there don't you?
Nevada?
Ouch!
Having to lug around extra-large parts hurts the back.
One news site I was on had the scientist’s tearful apology to the rabid feminists posted right next to an article with the photo of Kim Kardashian, the rabid feminists’ hero.
I was nearly crushed by the weight of the irony.
Imagine shoes with carts attached to the heels.
Oh my....
Showed it to my wife and she suggested OJ's missing satchel with the bloody clothes and knife were hidden in there.
Oh, and the gloves.
Does this isosceles triangle make my butt look big?
lol, Have to know the meaning of Isosceles triangle.
Ouch, I won’t touch that either.
there ain’t enough bleach in the universe to disinfect.... or DS2.
It already has its own zipcode.
I think it influences the tides.
Influences tides? What, it’s the full moon?
