If anyone hasn’t seen or is pondering going to this film.
DO.

It is the new British film about Alan Turing, Bletchley Park and the cracking of the Enigma code. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Keira Knightley, Charles Dance, Matthew Goode, Rory Kinnear, Mark Strong.

It is a superb film, with terrific performances all round, a gripping story, great script.

I highly recommend it.

Any mention of the Polish Cryptographers that made the cracking of the Enigma Code possible?

The Bletchley Circle....a BBC film series follows 4 clerks at the Bletchley facility during WWII and afterwards.

The intro has film clips of the machine in operation.

(Available on Netflix)

Saw the film yesterday, & I think it is great. I’m going to have to read a biography of Turing, however, because I was surprised that the film says that he revealed the scope of his work under questioning by the police. My understanding is that those Bletchley employees took that information to their graves. Was this just a “literary device” to move the story along?

And what was the “machine” in his home when he was arrested? It looked like the same machine. I don’t think Bletchley would have allowed him to take “Christopher” home with him at the end of the war.

Other than those 2 quibbles, I loved the film and I would see it again. I give it 5 stars.

I saw it last night. Really good. Liked the way several periods were juxtaposed.

In my older age I’ve become fascinated with math. But I’m still intimidated by cryptology.
