TODAY MY WALLET SLAMS SHUT!
Like most here on Free Republic, I call my representatives, who dont listen to me.
I vote, I pay my taxes, I obey the laws, and I am a good, loyal citizen.
None of that makes a difference.
I am not going to take up arms. I am not going to march. I am not going to go on strike from work.
AND I AM NOT GOING TO SPEND A DAMN CENT THAT I DONT ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO!
I will eat from my preps. I will only travel to and from work.
I propose a BROWN FRIDAY.
No Christmas presents, not Christmas Cards
.NADA.
Thanksgiving dinner will be from our store of preps.
Please join me in this quiet revolution. If enough clamp down on spending now, we may make enough of an impression that even the Chamber will understand WHO really runs America.
Worst that can happen is we will have more cash available should we need it for more drastic action.
Lower your taxes; less income; more charitable deductions; spend only with conservative supporting vendors; spend more time with your family. Seek government benefits. Starve the beast.
” am not going to take up arms. I am not going to march. I am not going to go on strike from work.
AND I AM NOT GOING TO SPEND A DAMN CENT THAT I DONT ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO!”
Sorry, but I don’t see how the affects anybody but yourself.
The way to quit feeding the beast (fascism) is to quit paying taxes. Next year, we are doing exactly that. If you’re going to spend little and live a thrifty life, might as well make it as enjoyable as possible. We will be moving to a rural area (house already purchased with cash), and will be trying a self-sufficient lifestyle. If I keep our adjusted gross income around $20K, between the standard deduction and 2 exemptions, our taxable will be about zero. The beast gets nothing! And a simple life, armed and ready for what may happen, is exactly how I want to live anyway.
If you won’t take up arms and won’t quit paying into the system, how exactly are you punishing ‘them’?
I think I just figured your point - you won’t be stimulating the economy by spending this holiday season, is that right?
Anyway, I didn’t mean to sound condescending. I realize not everyone can do what we are doing. We’ve saved a nice nest egg to live on until our businesses take off. And have no children at home.
We each need to do what we can. NOW. The founding fathers risked a heck of a lot more for a lot less reason.
I’ve been doing this for some time. It’s a form of Going Galt. Minimize one’s contribution to the economy and government by minimizing both ones input and output. Produce litte, consume little. Pay minimal taxes.
And if you like, do like the moocher class and take as much as possible from the government. As you point out, if enough people would do this, especially the producer-class, the system would collapse.
I already basically do that. We go nowhere and do nothing outside a couple kid events. I haven’t been in a store (other than buying ammo and groceries) in 6 months or longer.
