Hawaiian mountains/volcanoes are some of the few places where you look down from the summit and truly see sites 10,000 feet below you. Most other >10,000 foot mountains have bases only about 5,000 feet below. There are very few places more geographically incredible.

Here in the Kalifornia desert (mid to upper 70's this time of year) we're really seeing the influx of our seasonal snowbirds. We were at Sam's Club last week and the clerk told us that the previous Monday it had been a madhouse with new arrivals stocking up.

I'm having a hernia operation Monday, so there've been a few doc visits of late, and the folks at all of 'em tell us that the snowbirds are really overwhelming them. Tons of Canucks buy Americanese health insurance and do their stuff during their winter sojourns here.
