When I was a farm kid in the 50s, my dad bought a couple of ‘Zon’ gun to scare crows off our corn fields. Mostly what it did was move the crows from our farm, to the neighbour’s farm… until they bought some Zon guns too! I see that this product still exists albeit they use propane now. http://www.daken.com.au/scare_guns.html I’ve often wondered what happened to our old Zon guns since the fam has long changed hands...….they sound like a cannon on steroids when they go off. If a person was ever to bring one of those on to a city street and light it up, it would knock everybody’s windows out for a block in every direction.

When I worked at a small company in Camarillo, Calif. next to very large strawberry fields, I saw the best job in the world.

A guy drove an ATV up and down the strawberry rows and fired off cherry bombs and skyrockets all day long to scare off birds.

Had a cooler strapped on the back. Likely he was Mexican, I knew what he had in there, Mexicans I worked with all agreed.

As I said, best job in the world. You just knew that guy did not have ulcers or high blood pressure!
