#22 Art Garfunkel: I Only Have Eyes for YouThe great Harry Warren, with Al Dubin, wrote this tune for the Warner Brothers musical Dames in 1934, where it was introduced by Dick Powell and Ruby Keeler.
The Flamingos recorded it in 1959 by changing the time signature to 6/8, which was the standard slow dance time signature for rock and roll, and with heavy reverb. Art Garfunkels version owes a lot to the Flamingos because its almost an exact copy.

Now you're tugging some old memories, Maestro - The Flamingos rendition of this song was a staple of the Friday and Saturday evening sock-hops back in the early 60's. Under the code of that day, it was just about the only time you could legitimately walk around with your arms around a girl.
How times have changed - and not for the better.

O stranger, tell the Lacedaemonians that we lie here, obedient to their command.
Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)
