If I were a general or high ranking officer, I would be weaseling my way as close to the top as possible, saying all the right things and following all these distasteful rules, while identifying like-minded people along the way. Then, when the left goes full out Stalin, and they think you are with them, do everything possible to restore freedom to America. Be in a position to defeat these people!
