First off, I'm not a fan of Muslims, in general, and what they bring to the world. Curious about substantive FReeper opinion. Does it not even matter if the adherents are not following it? I'm kind of that opinion, but I am curious what FReepers have to say.

You are way off. There are many more Koran and Hadith references glorifying Jihad and terrorism against the un-believers. Islam is chock full of contradictory material

Yes, definitely have heard that regarding the Koran, but I’m not a scholar of it so I couldn’t site any verse touchy feely or violent. Just playing devil’s advocate and taking this person at his word about the good things. But if the adherents are ignoring the good stuff and the Koran is chock full of the violent and that’s what they are following, it’s all moot anyway.

Islam resolves the contradictions by stating that in any contradiction, the later passage supersedes the earlier passage.

The problem is of course, the earlier passages were the "peaceful" Islam and the later passages were all head hacking, clit hacking, hand/foot hacking, gay hanging, kill all the Jews, passages.
