The world's biggest Internet-retailer Amazon is going to start testing air drones for delivery of parcels in Britain.
Two years after buying the Cambridge startup Evi Technologies, the company turned to looking for engineers and experts who can help with the tests, the Business Insider reported. It is likely that the military specialists will be involved in the tests. The drones will be flying over Cambridge. The date of the start is not yet announced.
The project named Prime Air in future will allow the customers to receive their parcels within 30 minutes after the order confirmation. The Amazon drones will fly at no more than 122 meters high and their total weight will not exceed 25 kilograms. The maximum weight of the parcel will be limited to 2.3 kilograms.
Amazon has already been carrying out tests of delivering goods with drones to its own enterprises in Seattle, Washington. The experts think the realization of this ambitious idea of Jeff Bezos, the companys head, will take at least 3-5 year

Amazon PrimeAir in five years? Who knows. Just look upwards for your parcel service.
Hijacking the drone would seem to be pretty easy... The value of what it is delivering better be pretty low...

You’re forgetting the hunter-killer drones that will be riding shotgun.
What happens when the insurance industry weighs in?
Cool! Brought to you by... The private sector.
Brits call them drones, 'eh? Funny. We call them targets in my parts.
If they can ship it to your home in 30 minutes from the local warehouse, why not just have a “pickup window”?
I would imagine that the drone does not recieve information, but is programmed at the warehouse.
great idea
my brother in law needed paper checks the other week, his check card wouldn’t work for something. So he ordered a book of checks - $7. He wanted it quick. The website let him pay $5.95 for “in-plant rush” and $14.45 for 2 day “overnight” delivery. That was on a Monday. Est delivery date: Wednesday, said the site, said the email confirmation said the automated phone thing.
On Wednesday we called and was told by a person that the “est delivery time” didn’t take printing time into consideration. It would be Friday. It was always going to be Friday no matter how many extras we paid for.
frustrating.
Out of curiosity I asked where they were physically located.
.... about 6 miles from us
lol
