Sort of. The German Aldi firm split into two separate companies in the 60s, Aldi Nord and Aldi Sud. They still work together on some things but they aren’t one company.

Aldi Sud’s stores in the US are the ones using the Aldi name. Aldi Nord’s stores operate as Trader Joe’s. And since you are likely a TJ fan you may enjoy this:

I thought it was family held and the same family owned both companies. I don’t follow the business concerns of either company but enjoy shopping at both.

We would smuggle spicy black bean dip back home every time we went back and visited family. We now have a TJ within an hours drive.
