Protesters yelling Yankee go home! attacked three U.S. sailors in Istanbul, Turkey, on Wednesday, while the warship USS Ross was in port.
The sailors were not injured and all returned to the ship, said Capt. Greg Hicks, a spokesman for U.S. European Command.

Shun Turkey Now
Back in the early 1980s, one of my brother’s first assignments after graduating from West Point was to a base in Turkey. Military personnel were to wear civilian clothes off base, and there were no close-shave haircuts. They were supposed to look like tourists when off base.
I was naive back then and thought those precautions were a bit excessive to do in a country that was our ally until my brother told me that his predecessor had been killed there.
I have first witnessed blatant Turkish anti-Americanism some 20 years ago. Was really surprised to see American flag flying upside down at every place like hotels and so on flying multiple flags.
Can’t find any logical explanation for such an attitude.
Had a similar episode in Izmir in the late 70s, although no contact was made thanks to a sympathetic shop keeper.
I’ll second that!
TURKEY IS NOW ISLAMIST AND IS NOT A FRIEND OF THE UNITED STATES.
TURKEY IS AN ACTIVE ENEMY OF THE UNITED STATES.
Turkey is probably the least Islamic country of all of them, including more pro-American which are savagely Islamic yet has more respect to the flag.
I personally believe that every flag of every nation is sacred to some degree and in no way a subject to humiliation.
Those are the exact same orders I received in 1980. I was on The U.S.S. Illusive 448 MSO; a Minesweeper, a wooden ship that was based in Charleston, South Carolina.
We somehow sailed that tub all the way to Europe. We stopped for a port call in Izmir, Turkey. We were told, even warned not to wear our uniform into town, or do anything to attract undue attention to ourselves as we visited the restaurants and/or bars. I followed instructions, and did not go out in a big noisy cluster of other Americans. If Turkey has become such a lousy, hatefull host country, we should have no port calls at all, except to refuel, and then, nobody should be leaving the ship.
I don’t know how likely this is in today’s Navy, where so much has changed.
Not only are they in NATO, they’re also in the international F-35 Joint Strike Fighter consortium and privy to its highly classified technology.
The US spends Billions on turkey to keep it out of the stone age. When the money dries up....
We are rapidly approaching the day when Turkey becomes the next Syria. Sucks for them.
“Midnight Express pretty much nailed them.”
You sure you wanted to phrase it like that? lol
watching Anthony Bourdin visiting Turkey really made me want to go there.....I guess it won’t happen ever..
Maybe it was, but Erdogan has been steadily moving to a more and more islamic state. He has purged the military of senior officers who would have put a stop to this (following with the intent of Ataturk), has been brazenly anti-Israel, is trying to play both sides against the other with the Kurds and ISIS. He has openly stated that democracy is only a means to a political end (although he has not stated what that ultimate political end is). For our interests, we want to maintain our presence at Incirlik (strategic). What else we need Turkey for, I don't know.
What? you mean they don’t like us? after all the money this country pours into turkey?
Could it be they’re a bunch of mentally slow throwbacks to the middle ages?
