It won the best movie prize at the Toronto International Film Festival. That gives it a huge boost to win the Academy Award as well. The Film Festival award has predicted the best picture 6 times in the past including last year.
correction...5 times in the past
That is a given among British mystery series, I’ve noticed. Bailey & Scott, Vera, etc. Even The Paradise and Rosemary & Thyme. I wouldn’t take it too seriously.
I'm generally a fan of many Brit mystery and comedy series, but the rank leftist propaganda in many of them irritates the h... out of me.
Very true. However the British had Alan Turing.
Yep, London and Peterborough, Ontario to name a couple. Brighton, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dover, York and Jersey to name others. It's not just the old country either. Fort Bragg, NC and Fort Bragg, CA were named after the same Confederate officer. Fairfield, CA was named after Fairfield, Conn, by Sea Witch Captain Robert Waterman, of Fairfield, Conn, also for whom Waterman Blvd in Fairfield, CA is named after. I am sure there are many many more as well.
I noticed that too, when I could get beyond Bill Nighy and Helena Bonham Carter paired in a romance, to say nothing of Winona Ryder! It was a good movie, though, but not good enough to save. I'll watch the next one, hoping that the story gets better (more believable).
Hi -please excuse the private reply rather than on-line.
But - I read a little about the movie and that Alan Turing (Cumberbatch) was gay. I can’t wait to see how they handle that as most usually Hollywood would have him with some affair with Keira and then deciding he was gay — where I’m hoping they don’t do that and just pose him as a serious mechanic of the puzzle before him. We’ll see I guess. Any thoughts lets me know.
Yeah I recall that being a big selling point on this flick. For that reason I have no interest in this one but look for it at Oscar time.
There are some reviews on IMDB already from early screenings and the ratings are for the most part 10 out of 10.
