It’s been a career filled with highs and lows, but when John McCain looks back on the closing months of 2014, the former Republican Party presidential nominee and current senator will probably remember the time as one of long-awaited and welcome returns. There were, of course, the results of last week’s midterms, which gave the GOP majority status in the Senate next year and put an end to eight long years of wandering. Once the new Congress convenes next year, McCain’s chairmanship of the powerful Senate Armed Services Committee is all but guaranteed.
In addition to the Senate majority, McCain teamed up with his longtime friend and creative partner Mark Salter to write a book about military service, American history and the value of an old-fashioned, martial sense of honor. The result is “13 Soldiers: A Personal History of Americans at War,” which looks at 13 men and women who fought for the U.S. — one for every major American war — and how the experience affected them.
Salon spoke with McCain over the phone about the book, the war on ISIS, what he thinks President Obama should do on immigration and what he hopes to see from the soon-to-be GOP-controlled Senate. Our conversation is below and has been edited for length and clarity.

Of course not. To do so would cost him brownie points with the media. John McCain serves one master and one master only, and that is the ego of John McCain.

I no longer have any doubt that he threw Sarah Palin under the media bus.
McCain is a liberal pro-Islamic Democrat. Salon is a perfect home for him.
McCain is an F-—ing idiot! This will give the democrats more power in the Senate. The power of the filibuster that they took away from the Republicans. When the democrats again get power in the Senate they will immediately go nuclear again, “for the good of the people,” and shove it up the Republicans Asses again.
Harry Reid broke the established customs of the Senate. It can not be put back together again. The democrat party is in a fight to destroy the Republican party. This is a Brass Knuckle fight. The Republicans need to fight with everything they have.
Did I mention McCain is an idiot?
It happened in McCain's campaign. It happened repeatedly. If McCain did not either order it or encourage it he allowed it to continue repeatedly on his watch and did absolutely nothing to stop it.
Media accounts(which may or may not be true) said McCain was behind the many attacks on Sarah by the McCain campaign.
I also could not click on link, I’ve heard way more than I want from mCain, not to mention salon.
It must be time for the media to help John McCain get reelected again, to make all those disgruntled moderate republicans feel all warm and sappy inside.

He will go thru the next two years joining the Dems with all sorts of stupid ideas, including amnesty.

I give McCain no credit for being on top of anything. His career is a disgrace. But I do not allow his incompetence to be used as an excuse for the continued backstabbing of Sarah by his campaign staff.
He hired them. They reported to him. He paid their salaries.
They were repeatedly backstabbing Sarah and he did absolutely nothing to stop it.
That is not to say Romney and others were not also involved.
McCain should lose his position as head of the Armed Services Committee for going over to Syria and playing around with Isis.
That was an unforgivable error in judgment and shows he is not mentally capable to deal with the problem of Muslim radicals. The Federal ass kissing of Muslim radicals has to stop.
He was a drunken sloppy fool. Had he not been captured by the BVA, he would have been counting paper clips until retirement. He was at the point where not even his family network could protect him.
Incredible as it may seem, his behavior upon release from captivity was no improvement ... perhaps worse. His drinking days are reportedly over, ironic since he dumped wife #1 for a wealthy tabloid cheating queen, the daughter of a Budweiser Distributor.
How Arizona keeps electing this tiresome old cuckold who hasn't a brain in his head is a mystery. Stuffed ballot boxes on Indian Reservations? BTW, where is it written that this senile jackass automatically gets Armed Services? That's a danger to the Republic.
If only there were a time machine to take back in time and tell the NVA to keep his worthless bastard ass in their prison.
