Madison A conservative businessman who lost a GOP primary bid for Congress in July will run for the state Senate seat of the man who beat him.
Duey Stroebel Jr., a real estate owner and state Assemblyman from Saukville, lent his campaign $792,000 but still came in third in the July Republican primary to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Tom Petri. Stroebel finished behind state Sens. Glenn Grothman of Campellsport and Joe Leibham of Sheboygan.
Grothman went on to win the general election race against Winnebago County Executive Mark Harris.
Stroebel, who lives in Grothman's 20th Senate district, announced Monday that he's running for the seat that Grothman will vacate. His past willingness to spend his own money on his campaigns could make him a formidable competitor in that reliably Republican district, where any primary opponents might struggle to raise money to campaign for a seat that their party is unlikely to lose.
Stroebel said he would seek to advance the policies of Gov. Scott Walker such as tax cuts and public funding of private voucher schools.
"We must make Wisconsin's tax climate more competitive, eliminate the statewide cap on school choice, continue reforms to welfare eligibility, (and) fight back against the destructive elements of Obamacare," Stroebel said in a statement. "I will continue to bring common sense solutions to Madison so future generations believe Wisconsin is a place they can succeed and prosper."
Stroebel said he would also seek to overhaul the state's elections agency, the Government Accountability Board, oppose the so-called Common Core academic standards and champion what is known as right to work legislation, which prohibits workers from being required to pay union dues.

(or entering the swamps, whichever way you want to look at it.)
Grothman is Wisconsin’s Paul Broun. A bold conservative leader who speaks his mind. He’s going to make Paul Ryan look like a lemming!
This is his STATE SENATE seat. Grothman was just elected as US CONGRESSMAN. Grothman is going to Washington, DC.
Newly won because he won it last week — Nov. 4th. He’s the US Rep from Wisconsin’s 6th District.
