With the WWI centennial and Armistice Day coming up, I’ll have to bring back Elgar’s Quintet for Piano and Strings in A minor tomorrow night with commentary. It’s his 1919 reaction to what happened to the men of the British Empire who went off to fight and didn’t come back.
WW1 was an international trauma that has not been soothed even a century later.
