Democrats bet big on Charlie Crists bid for governor, and his loss Tuesday is not only a potential career-ending outcome for one of Floridas most prominent political figures of the last two decades, but also another gut check for a party at a low point in statewide influence...
Democrats lost six seats in the state House of Representatives, giving the GOP a super majority. The partisan makeup of the state Senate did not change, but Republicans are still just one lawmaker shy of their all-time high.
Additionally, every Cabinet position governor, attorney general, chief financial officer and agriculture commissioner remains in Republican hands. U.S. Senator Bill Nelson continues to be the only statewide elected Democrat.
....Florida Democrats invested nearly all of their resources in Crist this election cycle. There was little time, money or energy that went into down-ballot races that can be important to grooming future statewide contenders....
The vaunted Crist field operation described as a scaled-down version of what President Barack Obama employed in Florida in 2008 and 2012 focused on Democrat-heavy South Florida, but turnout did not increase enough in Broward and Palm Beach counties from the lackluster 2010 levels to give Crist the boost he needed.

Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn already was speculating Wednesday about the 2018 governors race.
There will be an open seat in four years, Im just saying, Buckhorn told a group of city leaders at a ground-breaking ceremony, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
The moderate Buckhorn already seemed to be making the pitch for a more toned-down Democratic message than what Crist who embraced Obamas healthcare reforms, an increase in the minimum wage and other progressive positions advanced.
florida media oh so worried about the poor Democrats and Charlie Crist.....ping
If they’re at a low ebb in influence, how the heck did Patrick Murphy win his district by 20 points when last time he barely clocked Allen West and had to win with fraud?
The next governor will be Atwater. And he’ll be a good one, far surpassing Scott’s numbers. This guy in Tampa would be better served running for a Lower office first.
Someone needs to whisper in the ears of FL Dems that Crist was really just a GOP ringer put in to make sure they couldn’t win the governorship.
Finish Crist off for good...
Charlie can always star in tuna commercials.
Come to think of it, Star Kist wouldn’t have him; he’s that bad a salesman.
Sucks to be a turncoat in Florida and he was the only candidate the Democrats could find to give Scott Rick a run for the money.
Close wasn’t good enough.
this crackpot was my neighbor years ago.
A loon.
I have will share his nutty emails with the Gop.
A serious hate filled jack ass.
There are plenty of other political parties for him to try.
Are there any more parties Crist can join?
He’ll probably wind up getting a gig on MSNBC.
The return of... The Man from GLAD!
He’s as slippery as an eel.
No wonder the voters spurned him.
Even Obama isn’t switching parties to get elected.
Lawton Chiles, he ain’t. But I’m sure that’s what the democrats had in mind.
Actually, watch out for Adam Putnam, someone has spent serious money on his reelection, and it wasn’t really necessary.
He will have plenty of time to work on his tan now.
“He will have plenty of time to work on his tan now.”
Isn’t that why he needed the fan in the debate? To keep his tan from running.
"This race isn't really all that important" Nelson said just after Crist's defeat was announced.
Like a security blanket. They ridiculed him for carrying it around on FOX NEWS.
I saw a story about a photographer who took a picture of it.
Do you really want a man as governor of your state who is that creepy?
Whoa.
Curbelo is the Man to watch, both Jeb and Mitt campaigned for him......rolls eyes.
