If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your......

(Since all records of obama's past were lost in a tragic boating accident and fire, no one can be certain that the guy in the red circle isn't him...)

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

“Why should we trust these doctors and nurses to follow this strict regime?”

Because they like to bowl and ride the subway?

"I am a faithful and loving husband to a wonderful woman, and I do not make a practice of hugging women I don't know. But if I had the chance, I wouldn't hesitate to embrace Kaci Hickox."

Liar.

Let's take up a collection for transportation costs to arrange the meeting!

"The hardliners act as though we have no experience with infectious disease and therefore have to take any steps that could conceivably block it."

Actually, the "hardliners" have a great deal of experience and know exactly what will work.

a virus called Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) infected more than 8,000 people...and killed 774. Even though it could be spread through the air, had a high mortality rate...

Let's look at the fatality rates more closely: SARS fatality 9.7%. Ebola fatality rate 70%, including 236 health care workers. Doctors Without Borders has lost 9 out of 16 staffers who have contracted Ebola.

Now,what was the author's original point?

http://thestyletribune.com/upto-12-ebola-cases-asymptomatic-past-21-days-new-study-reveals/ Upto 12% of Ebola Cases Are Asymptomatic Past 21 Days; New Study Reveals

As they cope with the first cases of Ebola hemorrhagic fever diagnosed in the United States, in Texas, health officials step up precautions to ensure minimal contact with the virus.

According to a new analysis conducted by the expert transmission Charles Haas of Drexel University, as many as 12 percent of patients Ebola may not show symptoms for more than 21 days after infection, thereby making the current quarantine practices unacceptably short.

Also:

http://www.virology.ws/2009/02/13/acute-viral-infections/ viral infections can be spread by patients without symptoms. I’m looking for the link, but, if my memory is correct, it has been estimated that 16% of Ebola patients are contagious before showing symptoms (including fever).

“After a forehead scanner indicated a fever — which she attributed to being flushed from distress at being detained for hours with no explanation — an oral thermometer registered 98.6 degrees.”

First, stress or distress will not cause a fever. Secondly, - she just happens to register the AVERAGE HUMAN BODY TEMP right on the dot?

From the CDC website:

"The practice of quarantine, as we know it, began during the 14th century in an effort to protect coastal cities from plague epidemics. Ships arriving in Venice from infected ports were required to sit at anchor for 40 days before landing. This practice, called quarantine, was derived from the Italian words quaranta giorni which mean 40 days."

I have never had a roommate who contracted Ebola. I have never touched someone with Ebola. You?

Back in 2002 and 2003, a virus called Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) infected more than 8,000 people, mostly in Asia, and killed 774. Even though it could be spread through the air, had a high mortality rate and infected 27 people in the United States, the CDC didn't recommend mandatory quarantines.

Assuming those numbers are correct that's a less than 10% death rate and it likely killed the very old, very young and the very weak.

If that were Ebola it would have killed between 5600 and 7200...and age wouldn't have mattered.

That's why anyone that has actually been exposed to Ebola should be quarantined before coming into the states.

I dont need to read anything else

What a ronulan.

To think that allowing EBOLA KACI in public without being proven non contagious is suicide, and to use the Constitution as a suicide pact is insane.

Bull. Decent people show the appearance of propriety. Even without symptoms, these genius better than us health care workers should stay home for three weeks, send others to pick up their soup, go online bowling, etc.

(from the article):"Doctors Without Borders (which goes by the French acronym MSF) has a lot of experience on the front lines.
Until this year's outbreak, the biggest ever, it had never had an international staff member infected.
Only three have contracted the virus this time."

You fail to mention that Doctors Without Borders (MSF),by their own admission,
have already had nine (9) doctors die from Ebola ,so far this year !

The purpose of medical quarantine is to separate the sick from the healthy to prevent the spread of disease & to allow for the observation of those who may have an infectious disease in a controlled setting also to prevent the spread of disease.

This is universally understood medical science for centuries the nurse who is trying to say it is a violation of her “rights “ is the one playing politics not the medical types that are game playing.
