A New York doctor with Ebola, whose case triggered a national debate over mandatory quarantines for health workers returning from West Africa, was upgraded to stable condition on Saturday after nine days of treatment.
Dr. Craig Spencer, 33, the only person in the United States currently being treated for Ebola, will remain in isolation, New York City's Bellevue Hospital said in a statement. He has improved to "stable" from "serious but stable."
Spencer was diagnosed with Ebola several days after returning to New York from Guinea where he had worked with patients infected with the disease, which is known to have killed almost 5,000 people in West Africa.
His Oct. 23 diagnosis, following a trip on the New York subway to eat out and go bowling with friends, spread alarm about the possible spread of the virus in the United States, leading states and federal health officials to issue a host of differing protocols for those considered at risk of developing the infection.
On a brighter note, Texas nurse Nina Pham, 26, who recovered from Ebola last week after treating a Liberian patient in a Dallas hospital, was reunited on Saturday with her dog, which had been quarantined for three weeks as a precaution.

Woooooof
The dog’s an Aggie!
Good for Nina. I understand she got a blood transfusion. Did Dr. Spencer get one as well? The blood transfusions seem to work but if the number of cases increase would there be enough to go around?
Thank you for posting these photos. Something about this lovely young woman and her beloved dog is exceptional.
I’m glad it turned out well for the both of them, they look very happy to be back together once again.
She’s unassuming despite being a very attractive young woman. The dog is a beautiful animal and he’s also unusually aware. Very bright eyes. They both know how close it came to being over, imho. Here’s to many good years for them to come.
One other thought, the article mentions that quarantine on return would discourage health workers from going to West Africa. I have seen this statement ad nauseum. Has anyone asked them? I don’t think their answer is relevant to public health policy, but they need to back up your statements with facts.
The doctor in CA is self quarantining and said he is happy to do it.
“...nurse Nina Pham reunited with dog.”
Speaking of which, I understand Mr. Wasserman-Schultz was unable to avoid his wife this weekend.
She looks robust and healthy and not at all like a person who went through what she did. Thank heavens! I would think that Ebola would be a virus that would take months to completely recuperate.
Sometimes the body catches up with the virus soon enough to avert the worst.
True, it seems most of the wailing isn’t even coming from the people in question.
They both look undamaged by the ordeal. I wonder how her boyfriend is doing? Guess we’ll have to wait until after the election for that update.

Its good to love a dog.

(Since all records of obama's past were lost in a tragic boating accident and fire, no one can be certain that the guy in the red circle isn't him...)
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
Healthy, well nourished people with superb medical care fare better than malnourished, sickly, parasite ridden people with sub-substandard care.
Still no picnic...
Maybe that's why they don't give a damn about us...
