Barcelona (AFP) - Ebola has wiped out whole villages in Sierra Leone and may have caused many more deaths than the nearly 5,000 official global toll, a senior coordinator of the medical aid group MSF said Friday.

Rony Zachariah of Doctors Without Borders, known by its French initials MSF, said after visiting Sierra Leone that the Ebola figures were "under-reported", in an interview with AFP on the sidelines of a medical conference in Barcelona.

"The situation is catastrophic. There are several villages and communities that have been basically wiped out. In one of the villages I went to, there were 40 inhabitants and 39 died," he said.

It is almost two weeks now since authorities told people to go hame and die, that they could no longer help them.

If WHO doesn’t handle them, or the body, it isn’t counted or reported.

Guess that's one way to become mayor.

Underreported.

Actual histograms show transmission greater than 21 days.

CDC lies about transmission limited to 3.00000 feet.

What could go wrong?

Now that DWB/MSF has successfully gotten the Maine judge to release Nurse “Ratchett” Hickox from quarantine, they can honestly tell us that the Ebola death numbers in Sierra Leone, where she just returned from, were underreported. Thank goodness!

“They” the government, media, the WHO and the CDC have not updated the actual number of African ebola victims in this outbreak for well over two weeks.

Is it declining or increasing?

Because there is no way it is still only 5K dead for two weeks.
Either it has abruptly ended, or our dear leaders and reporters are lying their asses off!

I don’t think the CDC intentionally lies about it - they just don’t know. CDC has turned into a standard bloated government agency over time. Actual Microbiology is generally contracted out and “Public Health Professionals” are in charge and bringing in more and more of their lot.

Tell the sheep not to smoke and then collect your 6 figure salaries (and don’t miss the next big conference in Vail...everybody who is anybody is going to be there).

The doc says there could be 20,000 dead now. With ONE NURSE available per 10,000 people what happens when 10 nurses die? System collapse.

Remember when we were getting updated numbers regularly from WHO? Suddenly the numbers stopped and press coverage got much quieter. Coincidentally - that is when the ebola czar came on the scene.

Your statement regarding telling sheep not to smoke reminded me of an incident about 7 years ago.
In the town next to me, the public health department was screaming that they did not have enough money, and that more taxes were needed. They threatened to close down some departments if they did not get increased funding.
They planned to lay off the people who collected dead animals lying in the streets, but yet they wanted to keep the people who ran the smoking cessation programs.
It was so ridiculous.

It’s actually kind of sad that taxpayers don’t realize what a little %age of their tax dollars (even in a highly regarded agency like the CDC)...really goes to the prevention/control of actual disease.

But h#ll...at least the CDC gets a bit of your tax dollars into the right spot...they are nowhere near as bad as most government agencies...which do almost nothing at all.

It is increasing. The governments of the affected countries cannot cope. They cannot treat the victims. Cannot count the victims. The medical systems have completely broken down in the hard hit countries. I don’t think they are lying rather they simply have no idea how many are affected anymore.

I tend to think this is true. I do understand the need for our military forces over there however - if some local "warlord" is keeping supplies from getting through to the neediest areas - just kill him and his "team".

This is not an easy deal and I hope the soldiers we have sent are volunteers. They may never get the credit they deserve but truth is - if we don't fight it there we will have to fight it more here.

...and with ignorant people over here who don't respect quarantine rules we may just lose the fight.
