In discussing U.S. immigration policy on Mondays Laura Ingraham Show, U.S. Senate Tom Cotton (R-AR) cited illegal immigration as a major issue in his race in Arkansas, while also pointing out that based upon non-partisan analysis, the so called Gang of Eight bill previously passed by the Senate "would both drive down wages in America and increase unemployment".
"I think we need to get Americans back to work before we worry about increasing the number of guest workers, or temporary visa holders we have in the country," he added.
In so many ways, this bill is just like Obamacare -- not just the slap-dash manner it ran through the Senate but also in the big, cumbersome, unwieldy, very complicated undertaking that will begin to collapse under its own weight, and [it is] nothing more than amnesty without any enforcement, Cotton told RCP, echoing what many House Republicans said after their immigration strategy meeting last week.

The next step would be overwhelming public support for increasing the minimum wage to 15-20 dollars an hour to “save the middle class”. Pubs will come out against it, and Dems will win huge.
Why go small? Let’s up their bid to $100 an hour. :>)
Because people would support $20. If they flood the country with newly legal aliens they will have to.
It is no so obvious to most Rep candidates. Here in VA, Ed Gillespie has not mentioned it or anything on immigration for that matter except the secure the border mantra. Nothing about Obama's DACA and upcoming executive amnesty or Warner's vote for the Gang of 8 bill that will triple legal immigration to 33 million over the next decade and double guest worker programs to 1.4 million annually.
Barbara Comstock running for the 10th District Congressional seat vacated by Frank Wolf wants to make immigration easier to the US and to staple green cards to foreign students' diplomas. No condemnation of the Obama's executive amnesty or its impact on the American worker.
The GOPe does not support the American worker. There will be a third party movement based on immigration akin to UKIP in the UK. Both parties have abandoned the American worker.
It will increase the welfare rolls even more. And there will be civil unrest in our cities.
In terms of impact, legal immigration is far more destructive of jobs and wages than illegal aliens. We have just had the two largest decades of immigration in American history. 27 million legal permanent immigrants have entered this country during the period 1990-2010.
Yeah, but that’s just good business sense. So is Amnesty. If you’re a Job Creator.
The businessmen like to privatize the profits and socialize the costs to the taxpayers. Immigrants use the welfare system to a greater extent than the native born. They support Big Government. The are also not assimilating to the same degree as previously. Since 87% of immigrants are minorities as defined by the USG, they will change this country in many ways including making the Dems the permanent majority part.
Lenin said, "The Capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them." The importation of mass numbers of workers from the Third World will ultimately destroy this country, at least as it was envisioned by our Founders.
Added features and bonus to the left.
I agree with you. But the people at the top don’t, because they benefit from the cheap labor.
oh...so, I’m nuts for wanting to stop illegal immigration?
I should be focused on stopping ALL immigration?
scuze me while I shift gears from the improbable to the insane.
legal amnesty includes hundreds of thousands of “refugees” being resettled in the US. This is why some cities have huge Haitian and Somali populations.
It is insane and needs to stop.
Don't be ridiculous. We need to do both, i.e., stop illegal entry into this country and reduce the number of legal immigrants who enter annually. We don't need 1.1 million legal permanent immigrants a year while we have 16 to 20 million Americans underemployed or unemployed. Our immigration policies should serve our national interests above everything else. There is no correlation between our immigrant quotas and our job and skill needs.
I should be focused on stopping ALL immigration?
All immigration? How did you divine that from anything I wrote? We need to reduce legal immigration down to its historical norms during the period 1925 to 1965, i..e, 250,000 to 300,000 a year.
scuze me while I shift gears from the improbable to the insane.
What is insane about reducing legal immigration numbers? They have done that in the UK. When polled, most Americans want legal immigration to be reduced. Most Americans are also against amnesty. Why should we allow the political and corporate elites to dictate our immigration policies that are destroying the American middle class?
Jeff Sessions is the person who understands the problem and has the solution. Becoming the Party of Work--How the GOP can help struggling Americans, and itself.
Perhaps you should review your Post #26?
You complain about the 1.1M legal immigrants each year.
Which is why I conclude you want ALL immigration stopped.
what part of my post addressed amnesty?
I want to stop ILLEGAL immigration.
The other guy insinuated he wanted it ALL stopped.
Neither addressed those here now.
I have been forced to the conclusion that a substantial part of the GOP would rather lose the country than be accused of not being “nice.”
The rest have been bought and paid for by the US Chamber of Commerce.
You jumped to the wrong conclusion.
Really?
From your post #26:
“In terms of impact, legal immigration is far more destructive of jobs and wages than illegal aliens.”
Ya...I took a big leap....
That is just a fact. I stand by that statement. It doesn't mean that I want to stop all immigration.
