New fight over Ebola quarantine looms as nurse returns to Maine

A nurse who treated Ebola patients in West Africa before being briefly and controversially quarantined in New Jersey could be the focus of a new battle over state health policy as she returns to her home state of Maine.

Kaci Hickox left a Newark hospital on Monday and was expected to arrive in the northern Maine town of Fort Kent early Tuesday. Maine health officials have already announced that Hickox is expected to comply with a 21-day voluntary in-home quarantine put in place by the state's governor, Paul LePage.

However, one of Hickox's lawyers, Steve Hyman, said he expected her to remain in seclusion for only the "next day or so" while he works with Maine health officials. He said he believes the state should follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines that require only monitoring, not quarantine, for health care workers who show no symptoms after treating Ebola patients.

"She's a very good person who did very good work and deserves to be honored, not detained, for it," he said.

I don’t believe that Kaci Hickox is mentally fit to be a nurse and I would refuse to be attended at any medical facility that employs her.

She’d better take that down for her own sanity, lol! Another Obama set-up that blew up on him.

Tenant Harbor, Maine? Ebola can’t get there from here.

Priceless! A “fan” page, and she’s getting more negative comments than positive!

“If I were in charge in one of these States, I would be handing out Free Passes to tour the White House and Congress along with a 3 night stay in a real nice Hotel in DC including Travel to EVERY PERSON coming from an Ebola Country or region”

I LOVE this idea!!!

In case you are interested, here’s a link to an article that has a photo of her in the isolation tent. http://shopatmain.com/ao/news/2014/10/27/Quarantined%20Ebola%20Nurse%20Kaci%20Hickox%20to%20Be%20Released%20by%20New%20Jersey.htm

I think it’s equipped pretty nicely! That cot bed looks pretty comfortable! I wonder if the people in West Africa have accommodations that are this clean.

We can not lose our hospitals to ebola. Ebola must be treated in other locations.
Bellevue Hospital Center has been forced to transport its intensive care unit patients two blocks north to NYU Langone Medical Center, as the staff at the Bellevue ICU are consumed with Ebola care.

You are so right. I think we need to have regional locations set up that are specifically meant for Ebola treatment. It is correct to keep a suspected Ebola patient away from the rest of the hospital. Once it is diagnosed, the patient should be privately transported one of the regional treatment centers.

I know it's hard to be consistent when you're a lefty. I would if her and her lawyer would agree with this variation:
"She's a very good person who has worked hard to build her business. She deserves to be honored, not excessively TAXED because of it."

In addition, all meals at DC restaurants comped. The catch: the whole trip must take place within the next 21 days.

The way I’ve heard it is that they really have no Democrat Party, so the Republicans are the Democrats.

Christie was smart. He knew Maine would be just as concerned as NJ, & he shifted the problem to another state. Good for NJ, bad for Maine.

Slightly off the subject, but the post about the boyfriend made me think of it: The “quarantines” in New York and New Jersey are going to allow visitors. Including the sex partners the ebola caregivers haven’t seen in a month. That is only slightly safer than letting them out into crowded areas, possibly less safe since they won’t be hugging and kissing strangers but they will with family and friends.

Can you imagine the s-storm that will occur if she gets sick in the next two weeks?

The social media hate will be MASSIVE!

"She's a very good person who did very good work and deserves to be honored, not detained, for it," he said.

. . . who somehow magically morphed into an ungrateful b*tch when she set foot on our shores.

PING!
