BELLEVUE A 5-year-old Bronx boy quarantined with a fever after a recent trip to West Africa tested negative for the Ebola virus Monday night, city health officials said.
"The result of the test is negative," the city Department of Health reported. "Out of an abundance of caution, further negative Ebola tests are required on subsequent days to ensure that the patient is cleared. The patient will also be tested for common respiratory viruses. The patient will remain in isolation until all test results have returned."
The boy, who returned with his family on Saturday from a trip to Guinea, was brought into Bellevue Hospital from his home in Soundview after his mother reported symptoms of the disease, sources and officials said
He developed a fever Monday morning, officials said
Neighbors expressed relief over the news.
"I'm happy. That makes me relieved," said Robertta Ovenferi, 47, who lives across the street from the boy.
Good. Poor little kid. Must have scared him to death.
