You are absolutely correct. I haven’t been able to understand either why he felt so free to come and go once he arrived back in NYC. He apparently was with his girlfriend also who is reported to be quarantined now.
I also want to know just why a health care provider hasn’t taken precautions enough NOT to come in contact with bodily fluids. I don’t believe that is the only way it is spread as certainly there can’t be that many ignorant health care workers not to take adequate precautions...
We don't know yet how he contacted Ebola virus from his patients, or whether or not bodily fluids were involved in the transmission to the doctor.
One important point to remember as far as transmission in Africa is concerned is that protection equipment and procedures used there for health care workers are in general nowhere near the standard that such equipment and procedures are in the US, due to the general poverty and poor sanitation there.
Bodily fluids are more than just “intimate” conbtact.
Even a sneeze releases droplets into the air.
