TAMPA Troops and their families at MacDill Air Force Base are being advised to downplay references to their military connections on Facebook, Twitter and other social media because of online threats made by Islamic State and other jihadi groups.

They should be afraid of us.
They are, but it sure pisses me off that I can’t carry to work!
I can’t help but think if our military follows the recommendations then the Obama administration has won in its quest to silence, minimize, and erase uniformed services.
Better than hiding would be living out loud, armed and dangerous.

Like I said before...
Run! Hide! Take cover! Raise the white flag!
It’s a great day to be an American, eh?
I hardly know what to make of this. I’m a three generation military family - Navy daughter, Army wife, Army mom and proud of it. Add to that Army teacher.
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE, I'M ASHAMED OF MY COUNTRY!!!! THANKS BARRY!
So, how's that "diversity is our strength" thingy workin' out for ya?
He’s right...we should hide from these people.... these bad people and try to understand their pain!/s
I worked in a place filled with near do wells and was tasked with cleaning it up. The only thing more fearful than the harm they might do me was living under the tyranny of those fools. I am prior service and I am certain most service members feel the same, I’d rather be dead than hide from the likes of the idiots that perpetrate these acts of violence.
Barack Hussein Obama is everything I expected him to be, and this is more evidence for that conclusion.
They won’t. Anyone stupid enough to look for an American serviceman may get more than they bargained for.
I'm not for shunning connections to the military, but Facebook is a venue where a bunch of bits and pieces can be accumulated and then put together to build potentially classified information. The "Loose lips sink ships" adage is still valid, but modern-day society ignores it.
When SOCOM was first established in 1982 we had our passports made in civies, traveled in civies, etc. We were instructed not to advertise for good reasons.
The recommendations went way beyond internet OPSEC.
Can't disconnect them - knowledge is power, why provide it neatly encapsulated? If we had the attitude that all of our military was armed and cleared to blow away the bad guys anywhere and any time, then I might agree - the trouble is that most of the time they are no different than typical American families as far as their readiness to protect themselves and their loved ones - they live in the same communities and have the same vulnerabilities.
By and large, this is a force protection message that makes sense. I remember as a young soldier many moons ago, before the jihadis rose to prominence, that we were not to be in uniform when off post. So, this is a measure that is grounded in the past. It basically says to keep a low profile and not draw attention to yourself.
That made sense to me way back when, and it makes sense now.
Unfortunately the enemy is so cowardly and so wicked, they will behead an unarmed solitary grandma.
Of course we could just live our lives and kill them when they attack us. Then drive them from our midst. But nah. Better to cower like good sheep because we might offend them.
Cowards.
MacDill is the place where those nice folks on the Delta Force Urban Attack Teams are headquartered.
Why haven't the Tampa Mosques and members been used for “training”?
Round ‘em up, ship ‘em out.
Islam understands best power and vengeance. Those Urban Attack Teams are experts in applying both.
For lurking Libtards, and those who slept though school, Islam is a war culture, not a religion, so your whining about ‘religious freedom” is irrelevant, immaterial, and not germane.
