First lady Michelle Obama on Thursday became the latest political celebrity to get involved in Colorado's heated Senate race.
Obama rallied some 1,500 people in Denver to vote for Democratic Sen. Mark Udall as he faces a tight run for a second term.
Republicans have targeted the seat as one of the six they need to win control of the Senate.
Udall narrowly trails his Republican challenger, Rep. Cory Gardner, in recent polls. Democrats are counting on turning out their base voters, especially younger women, to close the gap.
Michelle Obama told the crowd to remember 2008, when her husband was nominated for president in Denver and the economy was listing. She said it has improved since then, thanks to Udall, who was elected in 2008, and other Democratic senators.
"I want to take us back a little bit, to remember how bad things were back then," Obama said. "We were in full-blown crisis mode."
"If we don't elect leaders like Mark ... then we know exactly what will happen," she said. "We will see more interfering in women's private decisions about our health care."
During the midterm elections in 2010, Colorado's other Democratic senator, Sen. Michael Bennet, won by 14,000 votes primarily because of vigorous turnout efforts by Democrats.
Later in the afternoon, Obama addressed a largely student crowd at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, urging the crowd to go vote at a polling station in the same student union where she spoke.
"Bring the cute guy or girl you met at the party last weekend," she said to cheers.
Republicans sent a statement in response to the first lady's visit, calling it proof Udall is a "partisan rubber stamp" for the Obama administration.

6-7 points can EASILY be overtaken by the VOTE FRAUD MACHINE of the DEMOCRATS!!
After seeing James OKeefes video and how easy it is to commit vote fraud in CO with the All Mail ballots, Im not going to breathe easily until I hear Brett Baier say: FOX News is calling Colorado for Cory Gardner.
I dont mean to rain on anyones parade but the ballots sent to non-interested people or ballots at addresses where people have moved, or ballots in dumpsters, will fall into someones hands. All they have to do is mark the ballot(s) for a straight DemocRAT Ticket and mail it in. Im really concerned about CO.
