Irish senators have adopted a non-binding motion on Palestine recognition, as the EU prepares to set out new red lines on Israel relations.
The motion, tabled by Averil Power from the opposition Fianna Fáil party, passed without a vote on Wednesday (22 October) after winning cross-party support.
It urges the Irish government to formally recognize the state of Palestine and do everything it can to help secure a viable two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Power told the Senate that in the past 20 years while pretending to talk peace [Israels] illegal settlements in the West Bank have trebled in size.
She spoke of Israels apartheid regime and its deeply cynical, long game which is aimed at destroying any prospect of a Palestinian state.
She also said Israeli actions are facilitated by the passivity of the international community.

I used to be proud of being Irish. Until I found out how stupid they are.
Once “Palestine” is recognized as a state then the acts of terror against Israel will become acts of war.
And once Hamas’ chief financier Iran gets nukes, Ireland will be in the crosshairs of those weapons too. Dhimmitude is a bigger mental disorder than plain old liberalism.
Their own country was partitioned by the same government that created the nightmare in the Middle East.
So you’re against the creation of the State of Israel?
Really?
Ireland has an imperfect but much more peaceful two-state solution.
You seem to understand nothing about either situation.
It was not the British that caused the problems in 1948it was the Arabs, who had been attacking the Jews incessantly long before the state of Israel came to be.
If the whole island of Ireland was cut loose as independent from Britain in the 1920s, an even larger and longer civil war would have broken out, but between Ulster and the rest of the country. The Dublin government may never have come to be, and Belfast would have become the new regional capital of a British Ireland.
I wasn’t referring to 1948; I was referring to 1917.
The civil war would not have been longer; Ulster has (and had) plenty of Irish already. The Scottish & English transplants were far outnumbered either way.
“And once Hamas chief financier Iran gets nukes, Ireland will be in the crosshairs of those weapons too.”
Anybody shooting at Ireland has wasted ammo.
1917? The Balfour Declaration? So you are against the formation of the state of Israel and want to hand back the hard-won land of Israel to the Ottoman Empire and the Caliphate? Sorry, but I have absolutely no time for anti-Zionism or anti-Zionists.
Ulster would have sued for help from Britain and got it, BTW. If not for peacemakers like Michael Collins (not people like Eamon de Valera who sold Ireland out to the European Union in 1972), conflict would have dragged out far longer in Ireland.
It’s theirs to waste. The Irish haven’t had a taste of it yet; the liberal dhimmis there think that the IRA’s association with the PLO and its descendant organizations somehow insulates them from it, never mind building that big mosque in Clongriffin, just north of Dublin. All that Iran needs to hear is “84 percent Catholic” and the missiles will fly.
Thick headed clods..why support terrorists..oops..

You are absurd; good luck.
Did you mean something else by what you said? Please clarify.
How’s this for a monument design? A dead cat held by a skinny kid in a grungy shirt, who has obviously just strangled it as part of his ‘training’.
Fianna Fáil (opposition party with the most appropriate name) ping.
