How America learned to love gay marriage
The London Telegraph ^ | October 13, 2014 | Peter Foster in Washington

American attitudes to gay marriage have been turned on their head in the space of a single generation.

After a US Supreme Court decision this month, 30 of America’s 50 states will have gay marriage laws, which is testament to the sudden shift in attitudes towards same-sex unions in the US.

Two decades ago barely a quarter of Americans believed members of the LGBT community should enjoy equal marriage rights; now nearly two-thirds accept gay marriage.

This quantum leap cannot be explained by what sociologists call generational shift – that is older, conservative folk dying off and younger, more liberal people taking their places. Something more radical and unforeseen took place that precipitated a change in opinion that leapt across the generations.

So how did it happen?

Don’t ask, don’t tell … 1993

The title of Bill Clinton’s legislation to allow gay people to serve in the US military told its own story: the gay and lesbian community could be tolerated, but only if it kept itself to itself.

“Don’t ask don’t tell” sounds ugly now, but at the time it was a hard-fought compromise with the generals who warned that gay soldiers would cause dangerous confusion on the front lines.

That bill showed how far attitudes still had to travel. The Democrats had a “no discrimination on basis of sexual orientation” clause in their policy platform since 1980, but in practice that was far more aspiration than actuality....

This was about destroying the normal family and traditional marriage. It had very little to do with the homosexuals, except their being used as the vehicle.

Every state except Maryland voted against same-sex marriage. The only people who loved it were judges.

As evidenced by all the times in recent years when the voters chose to prohibit gay marriage by law, the only change is left wing judges overruling the will of the people.

If allowing Gay Marriage would shut them up once and for all, I’d be all for it.

But it will only encourage them to continue their attack on so-called “Heteronormative” society.

Sorry, it is abhorrent to 99% of our population but those who want to do other abhorrent things think that it’s okay to do anything and everything that is abhorrent.

All or nothing. Can’t wait till it’s nothing. Maranatha!

And I must admit that I am eager to see God’s full wrath upon these judges who have wreaked so much destruction upon our country.

“The only people who loved it were judges.”

Federal judges, some who were homosexual themselves.
And where do they get this “two-thirds” figure?
They just made it up?

The fat lady ain’t sung yet. We are going to overturn lawless Hussein’s abominations.

Just more evil at work. Queers and their enablers are the tip of Satan’s spear. It pierces, and great damage follows. We will pay.

I don’t know anyone who supports same sex marriage much less loves it. The articles in support of gay marriage usually show pictures of middle aged to old lesbians.

Marriage should be a sacrament. Homosexuals don’t want marriage. They only wanted civil unions for health benefits.

Same sex marriage is just a way for liberals to attack and criminalize Christians.

Americans made their bed with same-sex “marriage” when they embraced contraception. It was the sexual revolution (backed by contraception, and backstopped by abortion) that enabled the new idea that sex is for personal gratification. Once sex was seen to be unmoored from child-bearing, the sexual organs became nothing more than every person’s private entertainment center, available for use or abuse at the whim of the owner. It wasn’t gays that did this to us; it was red-blooded heteros who wanted sex without consequences. They are getting it now in spades.

Americans didn’t “learn to love” gay marriage. They had it rammed past their teeth by activist courts.

Ignorance on parade. Courts don't make laws under our constitutions. And a lawless, arbitrary court opinion does not equate to a 'sudden shift in attitudes' among the American people.

I doubt God gives a rip about same-sex marriage. It’s a momentary legal fad that will fade quickly. These people were fornicating long before same-sex marriage became legal. All they did was glue a piece of paper to it.

The headline should read “How American’s got gay marriage shoved down their throats despite voting against it”

I am optimistic on this issue. This is one issue I don't think the polling truly represents the attitudes of Americans. My daughter is a millennial, and I have talked to her about a lot of these issues to see if her generation is really that screwed up. On many of the issues she admits they are. She is very conservative, but works in a liberal industry. But on homosexuality, she says everyone she knows, that isn't homosexual, personally views it as a disgusting lifestyle. It is my opinion most of these people say it is ok because it hasn't intruded on their personal lives yet, but when it does, it will not be so readily accepted. I honestly believe someone with credibility is going to step up and proclaim the king naked, and this whole house of cards is going to crumble fast. But I could be looking at this through rose colored glasses.

The only marriage that is explicitly declared bad in the New Testament is remarriage.
The New Testament condemns homosexuality outright. The legality of marriage between them is superfluous.

Yep. Communist Goal #1. You can’t create a “new man” if you still have traditional families and belief in God.
