Good Gawd!! That government sounds like a nightmare!
Two-hundred and forty-plus years after our revolution for self-government, and the Europeans still don’t trust themselves with self-government. How dreadful.
Of course, you could make a good argument that it wasn't self government, or certainly not only self government, that led to the rise of extreme nationalist sentiment in the 1920's and 30's. And in any case, running rough shod over people's freedoms is not the way to prevent a reoccurence.
