Hysteria over Ebola fuels racism, while the real disease is capitalism
Press TV ^ | October 17, 2014 | Sonali Kolhatkar, TruthDig

The Ebola crisis has gripped the American media, and by extension the imagination of the public, punctuated by breathless pronouncements from TV news reporters of the medical status of actual and potential victims of the disease; hysteria-inducing magazine covers, like this issue of Bloomberg Businessweek sporting the message “Ebola Is Coming” in blood- smeared letters; and Facebook feeds dominated by click-bait images of microscopic photos of the virus with eerie back-lit tangles of fat worms symbolizing the foreign bodies that could invade us all.

But the foreign bodies of the Liberian man, Thomas Eric Duncan, the first person to have developed the disease while on U.S. soil, and those of West Africans represent the common targets of an age-old American disease: xenophobia.

Duncan’s family, stricken with grief over his death, has already questioned the fact that the only person to die of Ebola on U.S. soil so far is a black man. They say Duncan’s death was the result of actions that could have been racially motivated given that he was not moved to the same hospital where other Ebola patients successfully received treatment. In fact, while other Ebola patients were seen as victims, Duncan was viewed by authorities as a malicious carrier of the deadly disease. Even as he battled for his life, a county prosecutor publicly considered filing criminal charges against him....

“... an age-old American disease: xenophobia.”

Yes, indeed. Americans are so xenophobic that the USA has the world’s largest number* of immigrants — more than the next 5 nations combined. Clearly, xenophobia is the only reason a country lets in so many immigrants. /s

*As a percent of population, Canada has half again as many immigrants.

Also why we fund the majority of charity on Earth, too, I guess.

Yep, Ebola is racist.

We'll know soon. If there's any statistical disparity in the immunity of whites and blacks to the virus, than yes, it's racist. The same reasoning is used now by our DOJ to force affirmative action in many areas--lending, college admissions, lowered civil service scores for qualification and promotion. It's enough to make you think that Ebola hasn't read "The Bell Curve."

I choose to focus on this far-left wacko that wrote this bile, drivel, claptrap nonsense. If she would have thrown in climate change in with the ebola and racism, she would have hit the trifecta against capitalism. With all the problems in the world, this twit somehow conflates them all as caused by dear old capitalism. Well, guess what gal, there are plenty of countries in the world that run on different systems than we have here in America. Try one of them out and see how that works out for you. Try the Islamic State, or North Korea, or Saudi Arabia. Why not go to Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Liberia? Maybe you can resolve your hate issues there. But please, leave.

Obama’s fascist government sure did a fine job of keeping us safe from Ebola and the socialist governments in Africa also did great work in containing the disease.

They all feel inferior and blame it on someone else. Failure is easier that way.

Please call congress and tell them that we must be deadly serious about containing Ebola by strict quarantine within the United States and from infected nations. This is our right and our duty and it is THEIR duty to protect US.

Capitol switchboard is 202-224-3121 or Google your congressman or senator and get his contact information and call him / her office directly. You can also call or go to their local offices.

I believe decisive response is urgent because you can’t put this Ebola genie back in the bottle once it gets out. It is a fire, it consumes all the fuel it can get and the fuel is people. The only way to stop a fire is to block it from the fuel or cool it with water. A vaccine or medicine to treat Ebola would be the water and we don’t have reliable, enough or any.

Every possible measure must be taken to stop the spread before draconian measures are imposed. What is being done now is sloppy. We are walking a dangerous road. The threat is blossoming by the day if not hour. Almost every hour there is some new Ebola development and none of them are good. This is a serious and potentially deadly event. Unchecked it could destroy or weaken the United States and facilitate our destruction by others. It has that potential for every country and that is why so many are responding with such strict quarantines. These consequences, no matter how small the probabilities, demand a full effort and significant response.

Ebola is being spread here in the United States right now. First Texas, then Ohio then? Terror is an excellent weapon. It disrupts, confuses, paralyzes and destroys a society. Many others and we on FR have speculated that terrorists may spread Ebola. How do you that remember 9/11 feel right now compared to what you felt then? Do you want to gather your loved ones near you to protect them? I do. Even more than I did on September 11, 2001! Isn’t this passive response by this administration accomplishing the very same things a terrorist would want?
When something is being done that makes as little sense as what Obama is doing there has to be some other reason. I leave it to you dear reader to draw your own conclusions as to the reasons.
What is happening now is insane. It makes no sense at all. For example the head of CDC says: “Stopping travel from Africa won’t do any good because you have to get people into Africa to fight Ebola.” “You can’t get Ebola from an infected person on a bus but an infected person should never be on a bus because he can infect others.” “Blocking travel from infected countries would damage their fragile economies.” What about ours? What about our safety? What about resources we have paid for that should be protecting us?

Even the most despotic dictatorship in Africa has acted to protect his nation by strict quarantine and stopping travel from infected countries. Even CDC, the UN and WHO advocate and credit strict quarantine for nipping the spread of Ebola in the bud at the source in places like Senegal and Nigeria where both have had faster and more successful outbreak controls than we have had here. 35 countries have stopped travel of people from infected West African countries. It is so obvious even a child could understand it so why is it OK for people from infected countries to travel here?
I will post this message and keep posting it until someone stops me.

We could let the whole world into our homes, give to them all our wealth, humbly and gratefully labor 24 hours a day to support them, and ask them to forgive us when we finally roll over into the grave for doing so, and they'll still call us greedy and racist white devils.

We are just successful at what we do, and they will eternally hate us for doing so.

If we do see a serious outbreak, Blacks do probably face a greater risk of contracting the disease.

1. Blacks live in urban areas where spread s more likely because of population density.
2. Blacks are more likely to be on welfare, and during a crisis it is likely that they would have not made necessary preparations to limit exposure or to self quarantine.
3. West Africans are more likely to live within the Black community.

So we could have an outbreak and race war, c/o BO.

Rule number one of all leftist journalists: it is never the fault of all persons is disease-ridden pestholes for their problems. It is ALWAYS!! the fault of western, capitalist countries. If millions of people in a third world pestholes slaughter each other (as they have done for many centuries), it is still the fault of western countries that they slaughter each other. Bear that in mind.

Haha.

There are a number of reasons Ebola could kill more African blacks than American whites.

There could be genetic differences in our immune systems. Our ancestors survived the Black Death; theirs did not. That caused European populations to have certain immune protein variants that are rare in other populations.

Or it could just be the living conditions. They have a lot of disease and filth; their immune systems are constantly being challenged with really nasty stuff. So, when they get Ebola and they already have AIDS and/or malaria, they do not have the ability to fight off yet another disease.

If I had to guess, I’d say that Africans are more likely to resist Ebola than whites. Bats and bushmeat (Bush’s fault!) have been eaten there for thousands, maybe tens of thousands, of years.

But, I agree with most of what you said.
