You’re mistaken.

,......

Immigration reform is an issue important to Iowa, but it has stalled in Congress. What immigration reforms could you support?

Before we start talking about changes in the law, what I feel we need to do is secure our borders. If we’re not securing our borders, we don’t know that anything else is working. Second, enforce the laws that are on the books. Right now we don’t enforce laws that are out there. Even if we would implement immigration reform, put new laws on the books, who says we’re going to enforce those laws? We don’t enforce what we have right now. So, I do think it’s important to secure the borders, enforce the laws that we have now, and with employers enforcing the laws, perhaps through programs like E-Verify.

JONI ERNST RELEASES STATEMENT ON THE PRESIDENT’S EXECUTIVE ACTION ON IMMIGRATION - August 28, 2014

Des Moines, IA – Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, Joni Ernst, issued the following statement regarding President Barack Obama taking executive action on immigration:

“Barack Obama came to Washington on the promise of hope and change. Instead, he has governed with divisive arrogance, and a ‘my way or the highway’ attitude.

I strongly urge the President not to sidestep Congress by granting executive amnesty. By acting alone, he will only be encouraging more illegal immigration, and worsening the existing crisis on our border. His actions would also punish the millions of people, around the world, who are waiting in line and trying to come to this country legally. What is even more outrageous for Iowans is that Bruce Braley voted to allow the President to grant executive amnesty.

We all know that Washington is broken and out of touch. What is most alarming is that instead of fighting to change Washington, Bruce Braley is rubberstamping it. When I’m in the Senate, I will fight every day to change the direction Washington is taking out country, and replace Washington values with proven Iowa common sense.”

Bruce Braley Voted Against A Bill That Would Prevent President Obama From Issuing An Executive Order Declaring Amnesty For Illegal Immigrants. “Passage of the bill that would bar any federal agency from issuing, after July 30, 2014, policies that would expand the number of immigrants eligible for deferred action, the 2012 executive memorandum on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, unless explicitly authorized by law — effectively blocking deportation relief from being provided to any additional illegal immigrants. It also would prohibit the federal government from newly authorizing deferred action for any class of immigrants who do not have lawful immigration status.”(H.R. 5272, CQ Vote #479: Passed 216-192: R 212-11; D 4-181, 8/1/14, Braley Voted Nay)
