Six Reasons to Panic (over Ebola)
The Weekly Standard ^ | October 27, 2014 | Jonathan V. Last

Posted on 10/17/2014 5:40:18 AM PDT by Zakeet

As a rule, one should not panic at whatever crisis has momentarily fixed the attention of cable news producers. But the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, which has migrated to both Europe and America, may be the exception that proves the rule. There are at least six reasons that a controlled, informed panic might be in order.

(1) Start with what we know, and don’t know, about the virus. Officials from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and other government agencies claim that contracting Ebola is relatively difficult because the virus is only transmittable by direct contact with bodily fluids from an infected person who has become symptomatic. Which means that, in theory, you can’t get Ebola by riding in the elevator with someone who is carrying the virus, because Ebola is not airborne.

This sounds reassuring. Except that it might not be true. There are four strains of the Ebola virus that have caused outbreaks in human populations. According to the New England Journal of Medicine, the current outbreak (known as Guinean EBOV, because it originated in Meliandou, Guinea, in late November 2013) is a separate clade “in a sister relationship with other known EBOV strains.” Meaning that this Ebola is related to, but genetically distinct from, previous known strains, and thus may have distinct mechanisms of transmission.

Not everyone is convinced that this Ebola isn’t airborne.

Yes: Nearing possible airborne mutation...in “Africa”, not the US.

But it’s a moot point if our government brings that here, too or, for that matter, “leaves the front door WIDE OPEN...

Panic is the last stage of the Cloward-Piven plan to overthrow the Constitution, why else deliberately import it, then put the CDC circus on national TV?

I don't panic, until everyone keeps telling me not to panic.

Rule #1: They lie.

Rule #2: When in doubt, refer to Rule #1.

Somehow, they have panic on the brain, combined with their world famous arrogance, I think the logical thing to do is to panic.

Bit puzzled by your response. You indicate that the R0 of Ebola is the same as that of the 1918 pandemic flu which killed millions. But you begin your post saying the “hype” about Ebola annoys you. No one knew much about the 1918 flu at the time but both citizens & doctors had the sense to quarantine exposed people. No such sense is coming from the government now & I think that idiocy is the source of panic. And rightly so

During the 1918 pandemic flu epidemic they used to stack bodies like cord wood on the sidewalks as the grave diggers died just like everybody else...same is going on in Africa now as the grave diggers are handling the bodies.

We’ve had more than six reasons to panic over obola and the rest of our government and nothing has been done.

I didn’t write the stats.

Comparing 1918 US to 2014 US is ridiculous, save for the fact that 1918 US had more sense than today (government-wise).

“...puzzled...”

We’re both on the same page: Idiocy is driving the ‘developing emotional response’ (aka, ‘panic’) to this manufactured crisis.

The big question is whether it’s intentional

There’s more to fear from other bugs and the government itself than Ebola IMHO. If Ebola had even twice the infectious rate, we likely wouldn’t be having this discourse as the internet may have already been turned off...

Janet Napalitano gave a dire warning upon her exit.

The outgoing Homeland Security Secretary has a warning for her successor: A massive and “serious” cyber attack on the U.S. homeland is coming, and a natural disaster — the likes of which the nation has never seen — is also likely on its way.

I don’t dispute that. In fact, I’ve referenced that prior.

My point is that if Ebola was airborne ‘right now’ (R5-7 or higher), we wouldn’t be having this discourse:

There would be 500k+ cases/250K+ deaths in Africa and it would be spreading like wildfire across THIS continent (because, of course, our beloved.../s...administration brought it here).

Real panic would have ensued, the economy would screech to a halt and the internet shut down.

The cause for ‘panic’ is the treachery bestowed upon us by our government by introducing this virus onto this continent. On this continent, it spreads via humans, not birds or other mammals...yet. The blame for bringing it here into a NEW ENVIRONMENT deserves to be tattooed across the forehead of every complicit/negligent official with a bright red “E”, including our a$$hat Puppet leader.

My point is most people are reacting to this all wrong. But until an equal cross section of voters decide to focus on politicians, government and health officials - as opposed to the headlines of hyping news outlets - this will never be brought under control until it DOES become a reason to panic.

In the meantime, we’re ‘under their thumb’...

Have you read Isaiah 6 (pay special attention to verses 8 through 13) ?
The Matthew Henry Commentary on the Whole Bible (Complete) offers some good information and insight into it.

But consider the number of people destroyed in percentages in verse 13 ("a tenth" , and I believe that 90% of the people were destroyed) .
No consider just how the deadly Ebola and the Deadly Enterovirus-D68 will destroy before they are eradicated from the United States.

Now take a read on Ezekiel 7 (especially verse 24) and the final destruction of the House of Israel (not the nation of today named Israel, but the United States of America, and Great Britain).

We're in very deep trouble.

The latest WHO projections suggest that by December 1 we are likely to see 10,000 new cases in West Africa per week, at which point the virus could begin spreading geographically within the continent as it nears the border with Ivory Coast. Thus far, officials have insisted that it will be different in America.

I remember reading some years ago a worst case scenario for African Ebola was it reaching a large city... this fear was usually dismissed because people became sick in a debilitating fashion very quickly with earlier versions of the virus. They were not going to walking or riding to cities...

When this outbreak started one of the early reports was from a doctor who commented that people with the disease looked 'healthy' almost up until the point they died. That's a nightmare situation if the concern is the number of people that could be infected by one person. One person with the virus - in a bed - very sick and unable to move around much is safer than a person who can get up with the virus and spend a few days walking around town infecting hundreds...

OK, Freepers, it is time for action.

More is needed NOW than just posting here.

Call your reps in DC and tell them the flights from West Africa through any hub and admittance of anyone from these countries into the USA HAS TO STOP!

The place to fight this disease is at its source, not here.

The “screening” process at our airports is a joke and ineffective. 150 people a day are coming here from West Africa—that is 4500 a month. Some may show a fever and yet may be carrying the virus. The second nurse is proof of that.

Our healthcare system will shutdown if this continues.

We already have cases in Kansas, Nebraska, Massachusetts, Virginia, and Texas.

The first order of business of a government is to protect their citizens. And this government is failing to do so.

Make the calls.

The family you save may be your own.
