Republicans: Immigration reform is more likely to happen if we take the Senate
Buzzfeed ^

Key House Republicans say congressional action on immigration is much more likely if Republicans take control of the Senate.

The effort, two Republicans say, would likely involve individual measures rather than a broad, comprehensive bill favored by Democrats.

"I actually think it's more likely, if we take the Senate, that we will have immigration reform," said Rep. Raul Labrador. "We will be able to do it on a step-by-step approach like most Republicans have been asking to do and I think the American people want."

Labrador, who was a member of the bipartisan House group working on the issue before exiting, foresees a Republican-controlled Congress passing a series of bills that deal with the border and focus on interior security and guest-worker programs.

"I don't want to mislead; it's a difficult lift as we all know," Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart told BuzzFeed News. "But we would have a better shot at getting it done if Republicans take control of the Senate for the simple reason that it could be initiated in the House with close coordination with the Senate."

Considering we have been through immigration reform before, I have to ask what may have changed yet again?

I must assume Republican business donors in the fence building business did not contribute as heavily as Republican business donors in agri-business. Agri-business can not only get its crops picked for less, but it can then share in the profit of the food stamp hustle for its underpaid immigrant lettuce pickers so it can sell its products sold at a profit.

Those fence builders will have to come up with a sweeter deal for the GOPe if they really want to make some money.

” Code word that big corporations (Microsoft, Oracle, Motorola, etc) will get more H1Bs. Thus more unemployed American engineers.”

Exactly. All Gates and Ellison care about is cheap labor. I noticed that Ireland will no longer let these cheap whores use them as a tax haven.

Granted, the e-Verify, ID, and national database are problematic. I’ve struggled with it. I’ve decided that, at least for now, cutting off the economic draw for illegal entry into the country is the more pressing issue.

” The only version of “immigration reform” in Washington DC is

Give the Chamber of Commerce as many illiterate laborers, and the welfare state as many new clients, as their hearts desire. “

Wake up!

If so much as one ‘word’ gets passed by the House and sent to the Senate, that one word bill will be gutted and inserted with the Senate’s full Amnesty scheme.

Then it goes to conference committee who will vote to pass it and then out to the full House membership who pass it with all the dems voting aye along with 17 ‘squish’ GOP progressives.

The only way to stop the full immigration amnesty assault is to NEVER bring an immigration bill to the floor for a House vote and that is Boehner’s call.

We do however need immigration reform but not with the cast of Bolsheviks we have in Congress now but only when THE HOUSE, THE SENATE AND THE WHITE HOUSE ARE CONTROLLED BY PATRIOT CONSERVATIVES!!!

So table the whole goddam immigration crap until we have the upper hand on it!

"I don't want to mislead; it's a difficult lift as we all know..."

Voting against the best interest of their constituents while pretending to represent them is the hardest work congressmen do.

There are so may policies that could improve this country, yet this is the only issue the Republicans really care about.

When you read the article, this is essentially what Labrador is saying. There appear to be a number of people who think the entire GOP wants amnesty first, and everything else later, so much later that it never happens.

Your version of "essentially" and Webster's version of "essentially" are miles apart.

If you had done your homework, you would have known that both of those clown republicans in the article have been in the recent past in complete agreeance with the goals of Comprehensive Immigration Reform, including, granting Amnesty.

D’oh!

Any chance of enforcing current laws before any reform (Repub or Dem) happening?

No, I don’t think so. :-(
