911 emergency dispatchers in New York have been instructed not to use the work 'Ebola' over the radio.
According to the New York Post, officials made the decision in an effort to minimize fear and panic since the radio channels are often monitored by civilians and the media.
The Post reports that dispatchers have been instructed to use the code F/T' when discussing callers that have a fever and have a history of travel to West Africa.

911 emergency dispatchers in New York have been instructed to hide the truth lest commoners take any action to save their families.

At a hospital I learned that they page “Dr. Pyro” when they are having a fire drill (they don’t ring the alarms).

Obviously, because unlike TSA screeners, dispatchers are not viral disease experts.

Now they will just listen for 'F/T' instead of Ebola.

Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...

My son is a Paramedic in an urban area with a potpourri of varied ethnic neighborhoods from all over the globe.
Who screens the caller of a 911 call before my son responds to the call? There are no precautions being taken for any FIRST RESPONDERS! Will the lack of pro-active measures by the government ultimately paralyze the immediate response time of our FIRST RESPONDERS?
Remember the fate of the first responders on 911!
